:-(
My daughter and I were in our hometown of Perrysburg, Ohio earlier today and couldn't even drive by Fort Meigs (an Ohio historical site near us) because of traffic and people. We wondered what was going on and assumed it was one of their frequent re-enactments or something. Later we visited my son's apartment down in Findlay, Ohio (about 50 miles south of here and 20 or so miles north of Lima) and ran into a police stop in Findlay. We wondered what was going on there.
When we got back to rural Perrysburg (Repug Central of Northwest Ohio) we were stopped by police before turning onto our country road. There were three police cars alone at the intersection. I asked one of the policemen what was going on and he said, "the President". I replied something to the effect of "Oh yea, of course, the President. Right". Hell, I hadn't heard he was invading the area!
I will say that this visit was not publicized that much around here, although on the TV web page referenced below they will reportedly have 12,000 down the road at Fort Meigs. It was freaky seeing all the lemmings, er, I mean people, standing out in their yards trying to get a glimpse of something, I guess.
Ironically, when we stopped at the police check I had to turn down "The Randi Rhodes Show" which my daughter and I were listening to on tape. :-) At the earlier police checkpoint we were listening to last night's Mike Mallowy show.

The president swings through northwest Ohio again
We have new details about President Bush's visit to northwest Ohio this weekend. On Saturday, the president will reportedly stop at Fort Meigs in Perrysburg after his visit to Lima as part of a bus tour.
Perrysburg police tell us they've cancelled all time off so officers can help with security. Local Republican leaders met with members of the President Advance Team and the Secret Service inside the Fort today. As many as 12,000 people are expected at a rally and security is a concern, especially during an outdoor event.
