"The 1000 Coffins procession" Please check this out
MARCH: SUNDAY 8/29 Meet at 10 AM W 15 St 5th-7th Ave

Cop Friendly and they need Pall Bearers.....

"The 1000 Coffins procession is a serene observance parade of realistic symbolic caskets draped in the Flag -- to represent and honor each of our fallen soldiers and marines, and make a bold statement that the truth of their sacrifice cannot be censored.

Please join us today and commit to a "pall-bearing" team for Convention Week. Help honor a brave soldier or marine in a way our Administration would have us not do: by letting the reality of his or her sacrifice finally be seen on camera and felt by all."

3. Hope they can empathize with the military loss as they have
lost Police Officers and Firemen on 9/11.

As New Yorkers, we understand how important security is during public demonstrations. We are building the memorial caskets from single sheets of cardboard. They have no bottoms and are extremely lightweight so they can be easily inspected. You can see the plans here.

We welcome any input to help make the demonstration safer. Contact us at security@onethousandcoffins.org

We hope the NYPD will share our solidarity with our military and will support this dignified, peaceful protest.

18. Bush Never Acknowleges Our Dead Troops.
He just says be happy and spend money. It's Halliburton's way.

4. That's been done in NYC?
I've seen pics of varies college campus's that have undertaken something similar with crosses. One for each lost soldier.

21. Well he DOES acknowledge them...
IF they're famous athletes who gave up $ millions to go die for bush.

Then they're heros. But all the other troops? bush couldn't care less.

You guys remember when Wolfowitz couldn't even get the number of dead troops right??? He was only off by a couple hundred.

Bastards.

7. Same here, this is the most impressive idea
I have heard of for a demonstration. It's just too bad it has to be done.

8. A Truly Amazing and Outstanding Idea
Edited on Sat Aug-28-04 09:30 PM by snyder
How about calling the police officers' and/or firefighters unions, or the AFL-CIO in Manhattan? Who knows, maybe they'd like to lend a bagpipe team. You will have to convince them that this is going to be a very respectful demonstration, and that you need their help to keep provacateurs away from the procession. It's an incredibly powerful idea. Good luck!

10. Sad protest, very compelling
I have begged, bribed, cajoled, plead for just one friend to make the drive from Kentucky to New York to participate in the protests with me. So far, no takers, and I don't want to make the trip alone.

I would be honored to carry a casket for our forgotten heroes. Never in history has our war dead been hidden from view. I remember solemn ceremonies from the late 60s and early 70s of bodies being off loaded from huge military airplanes for shipment home. You saw this on the news at night and in your newspapers. You died a little for each family as coffin after coffin was respectfully, reverently placed on the tarmac.

Neocons need to be reminded that we aren't talking blurry statistics to be hid from the public. These soldiers are human souls that are gone from their families and friends lives forever. This war is not worth more one death, one more injury or one more person being put in harm's way for an over sized ego and the oil companies

March on and know there will be millions marching with you.

11. Solidarity from Georgia
I can't make the trip to NYC unfortunately, but I think this protest is a GREAT idea. I especially appreciate the "Cop Friendly" and "Flag Protocol" links on the web site. Very conscientious and well planned project. I predict it will be one of the most successful actions of the week. Congratulations to the planners and participants.

12. This is a wonderful idea!
I can't be there, but I will cry here at home and wish you the best. Our poor little boys and girls who will never have a chance to grow up, pawns in a big oil game.

13. My only concern
Is whether or not they'll let that happen. I mean they've been ridiculous about protecting Bush from protestors - refusing permits, etc. Will they really let anything that powerful happen? God I hope so - his refusal to let them be recognized when they are brought home in coffins has been unbearable. If you are one of the people participating, you have my thanks.

14. 1000 coffins.....
What a fabulous idea.

I'm sure you all remember one of Bab's famous quotes. "why should my son see body bags, it hurts his feelings. Nobody wants to see body bags in TV every night".

If it would have been allowed and he showed some compassion, some sign of being human or talked about the soldiers in a press conference, it would have made a big difference. But he was not raised that way.
When his sister died at a young age, she was never spoken of again and George Sr and Babs played golf the next day.

Why do you think *ush drank until he was 40!
Why do you think he is on anti-depressants?

He is a pathetic person that needs to spend many, many years on a quiet ranch. Lets help him out!

15. When you're marching, think of Cuban Liberal's nephew,

Chuckie, who just was killed in Iraq. I don't remember his last name but the thread's in GD, started by Cuban Liberal.

First DUer to lose a family member in Iraq, I think.

i hope this happens. it would be covered by all the media, like one poster here said. it needs to be covered so that the conscience of America is stirred up to do something different. Would love to see the faces of the top dollar Republicons if they could see this procession.

19. I'm Truly Touched!
Maybe these troops can finally be recognized. Bush who sent them into an unnecessary war doesn't even admit their existence. And he calls himself a Christian? I think not.

20. Let's see if people GET IT YET
When they see 1.5 MILES of coffins.

And how about 25,000 troops to march behind, to represent those ill and 15,oo seriously and grievously wounded soldiers.

And then another 38,000 people to represent the killed Iraqi civilians.

24. Have you contacted Veterans Associations? Or the 9-11 families?
I'd bet on it that the families of the cops and firefighters who died on 9-11 would march with you. College students? Wish I was there. It's a long way from Calif. I hope this comes off more than any other protest. I'd think that a lot of families of the soldiers who died would be there to carry their 'own' coffin if they knew about this. Especially one named Lila Lipscomb.
