Anyone else think "Kerry is heroic" stinks of Rove?
Bush follows orders:

1) Let the Swifties smear Kerry non-stop for weeks.
2) When asked about denouncing the ads, tell them John Kerry served honorably.
3) Let the charges against Kerry fester, all the while repeating John Kerry served admirably.
4) Repeat steps 2 and 3 until two days before the convention (because one day would be too obvious.)
5) Declare Kerry heroic and yourself not quite as heroic.
6) Now tell the world "It is time to move beyond the past."

The results (just in time for the RNC):

1) Kerry's reputation is damaged.
2) You are viewed as a man with great character for humbly declaring yourself less heroic than Kerry (but still heroic enough.)
3) You have successfully inoculated yourself from attacks against your "service" to the country. (see #2)

I think it stinks like a rotting corpse. :puke:

1. I said that in an earlier thread....it reeks of a Rovian scheme.
One that has shifted in midstream because the public saw through the smear.

Yes, this has smelled of calculation to me since the beginning.

The good news is that eventually Rove is going to screw up royally. (What goes up....). This may be the scheme that backfires.

19. Actually, it does!
Click on the bumper sticker, to go to my store. Then click on the satanic looking Bush head, to go to the section that includes that bumper sticker.

5. There is absolutely nothing heroic about the Frat Boy
The only thing that would get him to behave the way he did today is that his own polls are saying that the Swift Boat gambit was a losing line.

6. dumbya says nothing that Rove has not already told him to say.
Unless he is caught off-guard, that is, as he was in that press conference when he "could not think of any mistakes".

But your points #2 and #3 will not come to pass, because the Swiftlies have already backfired and most people believe dumbya was responsible for the attacks.

Rove's mistake was in not having dumbya say this before Kerry's counterattack. Too late now.

10. Where Rove has cheney'd the pooch
First, Kerry's reputation looks better and better as the Swiftboat Perjurers start including soon to be censured D.A.'s and Texas Fundraisers.

Second, the statement's raw, shocking, cynicism is simply unspinable to the undecidedes, who are now paying attention, and not liking what they are seeing, by and large.

Third, far from inoculating himself, Dubya has finally shamed the unshamable. The fellow who made a fortune by selling Dubya his slot.
Everybody is going to hear that by next week. That, and the backstory of the Pentagon spies is going to boil through the convention. Add to that some of what can be called burning New York (if not with violence, then with ever escalating passive aggression from New Yorkers in general).

11. Purely Preemptive...but of what?
At first I thought they were rapidly responding to this poll from the NYT 8/28: "Almost half in a poll taken this week say they think the president's campaign is behind the ads that try to undercut Kerry's medals for heroism while just over a third think the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth is an independent group, the National Annenberg Election Survey found." I'd bet a few Franklins that the 50% who believe Bush was involved are 50 of the 70% who supported Clinton at impeachment because they knew what the Republicans were up to. Scary numbers for Bushco!

But then inquiring minds want to know and it occurred to me that there was something nastier they anticipate emerging related to this story. I think its the Freedom of Information Act(FOIA) request for White House phone records (by a veteran's group, I believe). This would show calls between 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. and the Swift Boat Liars. Now that would be radioactive!. The FOIA request will have to be honored and how will the chimpster and his toadies explain all those calls?

He's screwed on this issue regardless. Peaked too early! Poor planning!

12. No, more like Hughes.
With Karl Rove and Karen Hughes, it's not so much "Good Cop, Bad Cop" as it is "Satanic Cop" and "Less Satanic Cop."

This kind of thing comes from Karen Hughes.

Rove has put considerable effort in the last week into distancing himself from all of it...Bob Perry, who he claims he hasn't seen or spoken to in "about a year," saying that Washington is a "city of myth" and that he couldn't possibly shoulder the credit or blame for all of the things done "in his name"...

And you know WHY he's doing this, right? So he can go out and DO MORE STUFF without the media spotlight on him.

Because once Karl Rove's modus operandi has been revealed and he's no longer a shadowy figure, he CAN'T GET THINGS DONE.

Despite all of that, I would bet ANY amount of money on the premise that "Kerry is heroic" is 100% Karen Hughes.

14. Until Bush specifically condemns the Smear-Boaters, there is no Result #3
Edited on Sat Aug-28-04 11:06 PM by rocknation
leaving Kerry free to attack Bush's military record and investigate illegal ties between the Smear-Boaters and the Bush campaign. But Bush won't do it--it would be too much of a trauma to his ego, and Kerry knows it. He's got Bush by the codpiece, and he's got nine weeks' worth of twisting to do!
