The Next Smear
Sometimes you see it with your own eyes: The next smear coming out of the desperate Bush campaign has been floated. Today in the Oregonian was a letter to the editor talking about Kerry's health and his history of cancer. And the ominous question: Can we really trust a man who's so recently been battling cancer?

Right below that was a letter from another reader, who said he'd been contacted by a representative of the Bush campaign: "After a short, respectful discussion, she asked if I knew that Kerry had had cancer. She added that a patient is not truly a 'cancer survivor' until one is cancer-free for five years."

Watch for this one. These creeps are truly ugly people.

I would rather trust him than the dry drunk we have now.

2. Yes, but
Bush has suffered for years from Conscience Deprivation Syndrome, a condition which does not affect him personally but is often fatal to others, such as American soldiers and Iraqi civilians.

5. We have the proof that that's not a problem: Lance Armstrong, the
Pope, Dole, and a myriad of conservative and liberal human beings have survived cancer for a long time and participated actively in national and international events.... and we need him mainly for the next four years anyway.

8. NO doubt that was coming -- denied as always, but straight from Rove --
He drops a hint, and it's done. Someone posted, I think yesterday, that it's like he has "sleeper cells" waiting to go into action. Swift Boat Liars worked that way, through Perry, et al.

9. Are we better of with a President on anti-psychotics?
If it were Kerry on anti-psychotics you know what the pugs would do.

10. So let me get this straight:
these guys have Cheney -- one barely functioning heartbeat away from the presidency -- and they're going to attack Kerry for being a cancer survivor?

Besides, his type of cancer is usually very, very survivable if caught and treated early if I'm correct.

I'd LOVE to see Kerry with a bunch of other cancer survivors and talk about how they continue to function (successfully) in their lives! Could make a GREAT ad!

12. can we truly trust a man who's battling alcoholism?
why is that NOT an issue?

huh?

this has got to be the first self-admitted alcoholic president in history, right?

not too mention drug abuser

can you imagine if the media had just concentrated on the dry drunk alcoholic he is during the first campaign

can you imagine what the pugs would have made of someone who admitted that they had to stop drinking because he couldn't CONTROL himself?

look what they did to Clinton over the inhaling bit

look what they did to Eagleton over his ECTs

"Volt for Eagleton" is still my alltime campaign button

13. This one is easy - and I can't wait to see how the RNC chooses to smear
Edited on Sun Aug-29-04 09:38 AM by jean
surviving cancer. Prostate cancer.

Bob Dole and Stormin' Norman Schwartzkopf are prostate cancer surviving Repubs.

If the RNC plays its cards right, voters will connect erectile dysfunction with voting for bush.

This smear will remind us how bush doesn't support science and prevents researchers from finding a cancer cure.

But let's wait to hear the vile spew they put out about surviving cancer. I wonder how many millions of cancer surviving voters and newly diagnosed cancer patients are out there?

The RNC will go full bore and try to scare the hell out of the nation about cancer. Their negativity will be one more large nail in their the coffin.

edited for a correction

15. Easy answer - ask Sheryl Crow to get Lance Armstrong
to point out how cancer didn't stop him from winning the Tour de France. Sheryl Crow is a big-time Democrat. I think Lance might be a right-winger, but Crow has certain power of persuasion.

16. Self serving kick
Another response: I can understand why the corrupt Bush administration is so anxious to deflect public attention away from its abysmal record on education, the environment, foreign policy, the economy, managing the federal budget, women's rights, civil rights, crony capitalism, corruption . . . well, you get the idea. It's nothing to brag about.

But why are the media so complicit in the Bush administration's relentless and transparent tactics of fear and smear?

17. Yeah, Kerry's father died of prostate cancer too...
At the age of 85.

I think the Lance Armstrong thing is a good counter to this, yeah.
