Anyone think DU's a waste of time for the next 60 days?
The only people reading DU will be the decided, one way or the other -- it will be Dems who won't ever vote Bush, or it will be RW'ers who are trying to depress people who are otherwise resolved to vote Kerry.

If you pick up your telephone, or go out and canvas, your time is going to be much more effectively spent.

If you talked to 5 undecideds, you'd probably be doing more to help Kerry than you would hanging out here.

Disagree? Agree?

1. No, we need the support that comes from commiseration.
On the other hand, if I see another "Doomed!!! We're all DOOMED!!!" post, I am gonna strangle something.

10. I feel the same way about the "CNN sucks" posts
Boy, those are really swaying the undecideds and getting Latinos registered to vote

16. Is every action you do in a day a means to register Latinos?
:eyes:

I guess when you're brushing your teeth, you're sending radio waves to all the unregistered latinos in your area?

Or when you discuss a movie you saw, it's secretly swaying an undecided voter in Utah?

Get over yourself....

19. I think you missed the point
by, oh, 100,000 miles or so.

Maybe you could make a bigger difference by doing something besides posting epithets at those who support the same causes you do...

...you think?

2. Disagree
If nothing else, I hope to hear some good counter reasoning for some of the bushista supporter's crazy logic. I doubt I will run into many undecideds but I know a few "on the fence" bush supporters. I try to get them to post here but they get discouraged easily.

3. For some.....
But even those that are going out canvassing and registering new voters will probably return to DU to brag about it. :)

peace

4. I agree that getting the undecideds is VERY important
I am attempting to not engage Freepers in a waste of time, but to look for those who are undecided...

5. I use DU to recharge
get ideas, and to be encouraged. The only time I'm online is when I get home-and I guarantee that my neighbors are all pro-Kerry. I usually spread the word about voting, talking Kerry, etc, while I'm at work, and there's no internet there. DU has given me a wealth of information and links to use when I talk to others while in town at work.

6. some people might agree with you
but we won't hear from them, because they're probably already gone, on to their more constructive activities.

7. Agree but with one exception.
Sometimes information and arguments gained from DU can help with the persuasion efforts in the real world.

Otherwise, you're absolutely right. It's time to put on our comfortable shoes and hit the streets.

I plan to do all that and then some, but I have to come to DU for sanity's sake. LOL!

9. Practically speaking
you are completely right.

But I'm a poll junkie (though I avoid the "we're doomed" posts). LOL I guess it makes me feel like armchair strategist!

11. I disagree. We need the support system.
Maybe I'm biased. I live in one of the safest states for Kerry and almost everyone I know is for him. So there's not a lot of converting to be done around here.

But I still often feel like putting my fist through a window, watching Bush weave his hypnotic spell without an effective countering from our side.

Some of that is the GOP's Rovian brilliance at manipulation. Some of it is the media's whorishness. But too much of it is our own stupid blunders and missed opportunities.

DU is important because even if some of us vent too much, we're often looking for reassurance more than anything. I know when I vent about Kerry, I want to be proven wrong.

12. Clearing House for Information - LBN is invaluable
and will continue to be so as we talk to our friends and neighbors about Kerry and about how Bush needs to GO.

OTOH I may go on all news black-out (including DU) during repug convention just to preserve my sanity and to avoid "We're DOOOMMMED I TELL YOU!".

15. I agree. I was really reflecting on the DOOM & GLOOM debates.
I think DU's great for getting news and comparing arguments, seeing what works, etc.

But getting into an extended debate with Doom & Gloomers (and really about anything other than the election) seems like poorly spent time for the next two months.

13. Of course not

When I'm at work, I visit DU sporadically to keep up with LBN and relax in GD for a few minutes. Then I meet with customers and inevitably prod them into political discussions. Luckily I live in heavily Dem and heavily union Northern Ohio so most conversations are more reinforcement for Dem positions. I also printed several hundred Kerry/Edwards bumper stickers that I give away. A very good indication that we have much strength, at least in these parts, is that people usually ask for several stickers. When I'm at home for the evening I'm on DU continuing my education on positions and the latest smear tactics of the opposition.

20. There is a lot to DU's use
If I were to go out and talk to undecideds all day and never come to DU, more likely than not I'd have no clue what I was talking about.

DU is a good place to become energized, educated, and relax. I also would encourage people to get out there and help make a difference for the Kerry/Edwards team.

Just don't forget about DU. We can all grow off each other's insights and diversity.
