Conservatives love this whole teenage baby story line
They don't care how reckless someone was in getting pregnant, just that they don't abort it.

Look at this quote (turns my stomach):

"Before, they were excited about her, with the Down syndrome baby," conservative, anti-tax activist Grover Norquist said. "But now with this, they are over the moon. It reinforces the fact that this family lives its pro-life values."

1. I don't buy it.
They're panicking. Palin will be out by the end of the week.

20. That's it. Sex must be punished.
And saddling a teenager with motherhood apparently suffices.

16. If you're a Republican
If Palin was a Democrat, it would be proof positive of liberals' depraved moral valuse.

4. As long as she's not poor and black, they're ecstatic...
whatever. I think it's hilarious that they're all pretending that there is no stigma surrounding this whole situation. In what universe is an unwed pregnant 17 year old girl a think to be celebrated?

9. Well, in the nineteenth century, and into the first decade of
the 20th, it was the norm; women were married in their teens and then were chained to the kitchen, the nursery and the laundry for the next thirty or so years. So maybe that's where they're living?????????????

18. Cenk has an article on the Young Turks discussing this exact phenomena

I think the man makes a very good point.

5. No they're just brainwashed
If Obama had a 17 year old unwed teenage daughter they'd be ALL over it and not in a good way. They wouldn't be talking about what great family values the Obama family has for supporting their daughter.

I mean, for crying out loud, these people are defending Sarah Palin's foreign policy experience by pointing out that Alaska is physically closer to Russia than other states...They'll do, say, or believe whatever they have to in order to defend their world view. This can be evidenced by completely ignoring and dismissing evidence of evolution, global warming, the ineffectiveness of abstinence only programs, etc....

Facts are meaningless to them at this point.

6. And, as other commentators in the media and here have
pointed out, it's beyond hypocritical for them. If it's a minority unwed teen, especially in the inner-city, then it's a disgrace, a symbol of "declining morals and values" and everything that's gone wrong in this country, sends the wrong message, the result of bad, little or no parenting, etc., etc., yaddayaddablahblah. But if it's a white teenager in a small republican town, well then...........it's a miracle showing God's creation and is to be praised, etc., etc., yaddayaddablahblah. Fucking bloody hypocrites.

15. He reminds me of 'Idiocracy'
He looks just like the teenage son in the first scene of the movie with three cheerleaders on his arms yelling "I'm gonna knock you all up!".

12. So at what age do the "values" tell us that premarital sex and pregnancy is good?
I couldn't imagine how rabid the right wingers would be if Joe Biden's family was in this situation.

17. Conservatives may pretend to love it. We may ridicule the hypocrisy.
I wonder how independents will react to the "whole teenage baby story line" and how Obama plays it in his campaigning.

Will our 527's use this as campaign fodder? And would independents react to that?

I just wonder whether independents are going to judge McCain/Palin harshly for her daughter's pregnancy or judge Democrats more harshly, if they feel that we are harping on family problems that many people have instead of focusing of issues.

19. No, they don't.
"At least she didn't abort" is the only talking point they have on this matter. They find it embarrassing, and would prefer to make it go away.

21. Waiting for Dr. Laura to chime in
When Children Have Children
July 22, 2008

When children have children, it’s largely because nobody is taking care of them; they’re lonely and lost. But we should never point a finger or suggest fault - after all, someone’s feelings might be hurt! And we all know that “feelings” are the most important value - right? Dead wrong.

I am going to listen to her spin and spin and spin.

22. It reinforces the fact that they're a bunch of idiots. A woman over 40
with four kids and a job as Governor needs permanent birth control. Sexually active teenagers
need information and access to birth control.

The values are not pro-life. They are selfish and unconcerned with the impact of their
decisions.
