Just imagine if Barack Obama had a teenage daughter who turned up pregnant . . .
. . . would he have ever been a viable candidate?

Would Andrea Mitchell have been so offended?

17. Thanks. I have been around since the primaries. There was
no way I could lurk during the Sarah Palin soap opera.

15. Yes, like many other things:
corruption, bribery, shady financial deals, extramarital affairs (both gay and straight).

3. comparing apples to oranges...just imagine if Joe Biden had a teenaged pregnant daughter
the parallel is there. Palin is not running against Obama. Mr. McGoo is.

9. okay but
I thinkk it would be totally different if McCain's daughter was pregnant v/s Obama's. They would treat Obama awful!! McCain would get free pass

10. No, because it's total racial hypocrisy.
If it had been Obama or any other politician of African ancestry, the story would have been about the family problems of black Americans.

If it's a white person, it's somehow okay.

6. "Nappy headed hoes"
We know how it would play...

The double standard on this is clear: unwed black mothers under the age of 19 are a "social problem." Unwed white mothers under the age of 19 are a blessing. They never fucking stop with this shit.

11. The MSM would have freaked if Biden had some sort of story like that
This is such a double standard. It speaks to McCain's incompetence and the Rethugs hypocritical judgments on teen pregnancies and "abstinence". YOu know, I was a virgin until I was 23 but not because of some stupid Rethug telling me I needed to be. I did for my own self respect and self esteem and not until I found the right person who happens to be my husband 9 years later. I was not a fundie and did not have fundie parents. Perhaps when logical discussion is actually used with teens they MIGHT make the right decision to wait based on common sense.

12. The only thing I'm offended by...
...is this forced marriage now just to make things look right. Sometimes marriage isn't the right thing to do in these situations.

18. I wonder if the elder Ms. Palin used her position as governor to force the issue
Could be a serious abuse of power issue here.

19. I could be 100% wrong
As young teens they probably do want to get married but as parents (1st) they should concern themselves on doing the right thing for their daughter and the baby versus what looks like the right thing to do in the public's eye and/or opinion as a politician (2nd) more worried about their career.

In the "Ward Cleaver" generation you could get out of high school, start a career and raise a family. But these days even with a college degree you might only be able to find a $12 an hour job when you get out of school, if you're lucky.
