· Rasmussen: Obama 51, McCain 45!!!! Bounce Growing!

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows Barack Obama attracting 48% of the vote while John McCain earns 43%. When "leaners" are included, it’s Obama 51%, McCain 45%. This is the highest level of support enjoyed by Obama at any point in Election 2008.

Obama has strengthened his support among Democrats and now attracts the vote from 85% of those within his party. Eighty-six percent (86%) of Republicans support McCain.

Polling released earlier today showed that the number of Republicans in the country increased slightly during August, but Democrats still have a nearly six point advantage.

1. Breaking 50% is an historically good measure for a presidential candidate.

21. He can't dump her. That would be game over

His only option is to try to survive the initial flurry of information an get her out on the stump where she can reverse some of the negatives. For that strategy to work, he has to stop the steady flow of bad news coming from Alaska, hence the team on the ground there now.

A 10 point spread at Labor Day can be overcome by election day, especially if you have the Diebold factor. Also, the electoral spread is not that strong.

6. I think Palin got the fundies on the polling, out of the undecided column.
But, watch the rational goppers move to the sane ticket: Obama/Biden.

9. McCaint's Palin problem with the polls is that he already had his base.
This pick might have helped to solidify it, but the problem he had was attracting the indy's, who now appear to be moving towards Obama.

11. Check the weighting for Sept alone..
they added more republicans and fewer dems into the poll this month and he still moves ahead.

Like all polling firms, Rasmussen Reports weights its data to reflect the population at large. Among other targets, Rasmussen Reports weights data by political party affiliation using a dynamic weighting process. Our baseline targets are established based upon survey interviews with a sample of adults nationwide completed during the preceding three months (a total of 45,000 interviews). For September, the targets are 39.7% Democrat, 32.1% Republican, and 28.2% unaffiliated (see party trends and analysis). For the month of August, the targets were 40.6% Democrat, 31.6% Republican, and 27.8% unaffiliated.

14. This is the anti-Palin bounce added to the convention bounce - bloggers are doing a good job
Palin is looking more and more like a loser to many swing voters, thanks to the coverage on her glaring problems
and inadequacies as a VP candidate.
