The discussion on the (extended?) Morning Joe on Palin was pretty good.
Edited on Tue Sep-02-08 10:02 AM by ErinBerin84
The panel (which included Joe, Mika, Eugene Robinson, Jonathan Alter, and Tom vilsack) was discussing the Palin pick, and touched on some good points. Vilsack pointed out the fraud in marketing Palin as a "reformer" when she was really for the Bridge to Nowhere, and secured millions in earmarks for a small town. Vilsack also talked about the vetting process for VP in 04 and how it was very extensive, so it is legitimate to question the vetting process and how it seems to have barely scratched the surface of the stories we are now finding out about Palin. Alter brought up that while Obama is usually portrayed in the media as the "risky choice", there are some questions that we need to be asking about McCain's personality - not his character- (though I would disagree with that one, haha) that would make him unprepared for the job..his impulsiveness, his erratic nature, etc.

Someone on the panel (I forget which one it was, may have been Tom) pointed out that if the reports are true about Palin not being McCain's pick, who DID pick her...and that he is marketed as someone who can fight against the right wing, but he did not choose to do that in his first important decision. Tom said that, in the first few days on the Dem convention, NOBODY was questioning whether or not Biden would be prepared, in the case that he needed to take over for president. Joe and Mika said that the Palin pick "takes the experience question off of the table" for the McCain campaign. The panel also discussed whether McCain has "burned some bridges" with the VP selection, and Alter said that he received a call from an angry Romney staffer on Sunday who was very pissed off about how Romney's name kept being "put out there" for the media , and that the Palin pick completely destroyed important Republican brand talking points. They also referenced some comment that Romney made yesterday about how he would not want to serve in a McCain administration, because he doesn't want 27 year olds telling him what to do (!). And Joe said that Pawlenty looks like he feels "totally used" .Vilsack was very good, and reiterated that we need to examine what kind of "message" both candidate sent in their "first important decision" as nominees.

Joe and Mika said that the Palin pick "takes the experience question off of the table" for the McCain campaign.

I posted this at 8AM EST yesterday morning:

In appointing Sarah Palin as his vice presidential running mate, John McCain has taken his trump card off the table. The only real weapon he’s had is Obama’s youth and inexperience--and he’s flip-flopped by choosing a running mate who is even MORE youthful and inexperienced!

Where's my royalty payment, Joe?

2. Joe and Mika only seem to concede that talking point when the panel includes Democrats.
When they are with Republicans, I'm sure that they parrot the "more executive experience!" line.

3. Vilsack Scores, Klobuchar Sits
I caught part of the interview and was pleased that Vilsack got in good points.

Earlier, I walked in on the end of a Amy Klobuchar (MN Senator), who did NOT
interrupt Morning Joe's twittering about Palin standing up to Ted Stevens.

Uh, Amy, where was the correction that (a) Palin was FOR the Bridge to Nowhere (yes,
with the now-obligatory: before she was against it) and (b) Palin was a director
of a pro-Stevens 527 (blocking out the exact name, but "Ted Stevens" and "Excellence"
were in the title, which made my head spin).

Tom: Good
Amy: Not Good (maybe she got in points before, but don't just sit there while
Joe spews and spins! and Mika repeats words and agrees...)

4. yeah, some Dems need to get on their game with the Palin talking points.
There's a tresure trove of things that contradict the GOP talking points on her.
