The firestorm of controversy about the Palin pick *shows* it was a FAIL by McCain.
The Palin pick is overshadowing him, his message, his campaign, his convention. It only brings him the fundies, who wouldn't have voted for the Dems anyway.

Just really stupid and shows his first big decision was a failure.

1. I think McCain is happy that it is overshadowing him
Palin is a lightning rod that could help McCain rise above the fray.

That said, it has to be the single most boneheaded decision in Presidential campaign history
and the Republican Party is scrambling for cover. McCain will be lucky to last out the week.
