The devil is with Kerry?
I wanted my mother to see the protesters in NYC and I called her. I was floored by her saying that 'the devil supports Kerry'.

I love my mother dearly, but I'm just flabbergasted. My hands are shaking I can barely type. I told her then I must be for the devil then.

I've kept my religious views away from my family because I know it would hurt them. I don't believe half of it, but I honestly can't believe she actually thinks this.

1. That's how they hold onto the base
It wouldnt' have mattered who ran against Bush. The Devil supports his opponent.

Don't take it personally, it's just religious cultism. My sister is the same way.;(

4. That's the meme Cyn...sorry you had to hear it from your
Mum.

They should be rottenly ashamed of trying to smear Kerry and his beautiful supporters like that.

But then again..I think they are all all a bunch of murdering hypocrites.

This divisive attitude of the GOP and the churches has separated so many of us from our families. What to do? One must follow there inner self.

8. That's pretty much how I feel, too.
I don't call myself that anymore because I think it's been so distorted. I'll never set foot in a church again if I can help.

I'm much calmer now than what I was so I'm recording the rest of the protest, taking my kids out for a couple of hours and when I come home, I'm making a music vid with grabs of this protest.

It's good to know I'm not the oddball I used to take myself for when I was growing up.

You guys rock! :yourock:

9. interestingly enough, there are several articles online about how
Edited on Sun Aug-29-04 02:59 PM by GreenPartyVoter
evangelical conservatives are "winning" because their membership is going up whereas liberal church numbers are going down. But I think the trouble is with the way the conservatives count, which is by the number of backsides in pews. We liberal believers tend not to feel we _have_ to be at church, so I suspect there are a LOT of liberal (Christian and otherwise) believers out there who are not getting counted.

Would Jesus love a liberal? You bet!

Been there done that. Carried the scars for awhile...all better now.

I no longer affiliate myself with that sort of spiritual program/cult...it supports politics/government like we see today and that is not my understanding of "Christ Consciousness".

I want to be part of the solution for today's world..not part of the problem.

You can't change a person's belief; you can only hold onto your own and do it nobly. You can love people for humanities sake while rejecting their philosophy.

I'm a granny now. My folks are gone; I miss them. They would be saying things like your mom if they were here. I am wiser, but not nearly wise enough. Still, at my age, I'd probably enjoy a little "go round" with some relgiopolitico types.

Enjoy your life and be at Peace~~ SB

12. Nutzoids! I like what Kerry said about him wanting
to be on "God's side" at the Convention.

AND when Richard Gere said at an awards ceremony honoring him..

"One thing I've learned is never to trust anybody who thinks God is only on their side, ESPECIALLY, if he's the president(sic) of the United States!"

20. That does sound over-the-top odd
I'm not being sarcastic here, but wonder quite seriously if she has a history of mental illness? Extreme thoughts about God and Satan sometimes go along with certain illnesses. (If not, please don't take offense -- none meant!)

If she's always been religious in this way, did she explain why she believes the "devil supports Kerry?" Or why she believes Bush* is godly? (It's an astonishing phenomenon to me that so many people believe he is, simply because he says so!)

23. It seems to me it's Christ-like to work for the powerless, the poor,
the ill, the elderly, the children... I can't figure out how anybody could look at someone like Hillary Clinton (or name any Democrat, Zell excepted) and say they're the "anti-Christ," yet think Curious George is "Christian" when he cuts programs and institutes policies that HURT the powerless, the poor, the ill, the elderly, the children...

What on earth is wrong with such people?

30. You guys are just freakin' Great!
I feel ten times better than what I did especially after reading all the great posts!

When I was a kid a friend of mine got me completely hooked on KISS. I just loved those guys and their music.

To this day my mother still thinks they worship satan :eyes: On my way home I remembered this so now that I think about it, what she said about Kerry isn't too far off base for her.

I told my 14 year old daughter what she said and she was shocked, too. Needless to say I feel completely reaffirmed that I'm not weird. LOL

I think I'll order a couple of t-shirts from somewhere to let people know how I feel without even opening my mouth.

I'm sure you guys have some great suggestions ;)

Cyn:)

I am not just exactly sure where God/Jesus/Holy Spirit registered Repulican. I would assume it is in Utah Branson, MO, or Crawford, TX. The Devil is probably registered in Cambridge Mass, D.C. or Las Vegas. I would like to see the voters card of all allegedly real paranormal beings...barring that, do you think we could get Gallup to poll them?

36. hi cynatnite - i havent been able to read everyones posts but heres my
thought:

if this works for you how about checking out john kerrys site and in the communities section, he has people of faith for kerry (or something like that) as one of the many communities on his site

it may be something youre interested in or it may be something after reading it that you would be able to share with your mom

i cant know of course but i feel its worth looking into. considering it was such a shock to you perhaps this could help, even if it gives her something to think about later on.

by the way, im most definitely a person of faith for kerry!

best wishes with whatever you choose and i sure am sorry she feels that way and how that must feel to you to hear that.

I had to listen to my dad lecture me about Kerry and abortion last week, followed by the line about how Bush was going to win in a landslide.

I just said "ok."

And then I left.

BTW, not sure what your beliefs are, but here is some religous left to counter with- http://www.sojo.net
