I found this joke on another DU thread:
""John McCain's VP pick is the governor of Alaska, a unknown hockey mom named Sarah Palin that no one ever heard of. The only other job she had in politics was the mayor of a small town known as Wasilla, Alaska, and now she has the opportunity to be on a ticket opposite of Barack Obama, the first black man she's ever seen." –Bill Maher"
Which got me thinking: we know Palin's lived in Idaho. She's made at least one official trip to Texas. But how much contact has she had with non-Alaskans? How does she relate to people in the Rust Belt who saw their jobs move overseas (and who don't get a $1K+ payment from their state), or the people in the Midwest who are struggling with the aftermath of this year's floods (and who don't get a $1K+ payout from their states)? Or people all over the country facing the challenges of living and getting along in a multi-cultural society (and who don't get a $1K+ payment from their state), or people in urban areas looking at the deterioration of their infrastructures (and who don't get a $1K+ payment from their state)? How is she going to cope with the diversity of cultures and beliefs in her own country, not to mention the rest of the world?
How does she deal with people who are not like her? Does she even know the rest of the country exists, and isn't Alaska?
