A CBS poll done shortly after the 2004 Democratic Convention showed John Kerry received no convention bounce.

(CBS/AP) The Democratic convention did not generate a bounce for the ticket of John Kerry and John Edwards but apparently solidified the slim lead the pair held going into Boston, a CBS News poll finds.

Kerry and Edwards now hold a six-point lead over the Republican incumbents, 49 percent to 43 percent — only slightly wider than the 49 percent to 44 percent lead the Democrats had in a poll taken July 11 to 15

Compare that to Obama and you see this election is far different and far better than what we saw in 2004.

Anyhow, Obama and the Dems brought their A game this time.

2. Wasn't it right after the '04 convention that they had an Orange Alert in NY/NJ/CT?

Security got stepped up and Bush took the spotlight as Our Protector. The big threat was based on 3 year-old intelligence but released within days of Kerry's amazing, passionate convention speech. That's my vague recollection of events: no bump because Homeland Security was a tool of Bush's campaign.
