Help for this LTTE about bush's service record--getting sent today
Today in the Dallas Morning News, they printed a list of 50 things most people (supposedly) don't know about bush. I knew 47 of them. The other three were so inconsequential I can't even remember them now. Something about his pets as a child or something.

Anyway, one of the items said he was honorably discharged on October 1, 1973, eight months before his service was up to attend Harvard Business School.

My vet husband said without a DD-214, there is NO proof you were discharged, much less whether honorably or dishonorably. So the statement that he was "honorably discharged on October 1, 1973" is actually disputable without a DD-214 attesting to this fact.

Is that true military people?

1. I think a certificate of discharge is a separate piece of paper.

2. Yeah
there is a certificate of discharge, suitable for framing. But no one's ever seen THAT of bush, either.

So short of that AND a DD-214, how can anyone SAY he was honorably discharged???

3. There was some document showing an "honorable" discharge
but someone cited a source showing that at the time, someone could get an "honorable discharge," at the discretion of superiors, even if he'd been busted for possessing and/or using drugs (as long as they were only for his personal use) -- depending on other circumstances (like who your daddy is) and the opinion of whoever was issuing the discharge.

4. One more thought: Start a new thread and let DUers come up with 50
things people in Dallas may not know about Bush*. I'll bet the people here could come up with 50 before long. ;)

5. A DD214 is a
Report of Separation from active duty. Completion of reserve duty doesn't generate a DD214. He may have been on active duty for flight training but that DD214 would only cover his first two years in TANG.
