Bush girls/Kerry girls on MTV VMA's!
Edited on Sun Aug-29-04 09:03 PM by wndycty
There was a lot of boing going on. . .I am not sure who was getting booed.

It was an awkward Choose or Lose segment. I am thinking both sets of girls got booed.

. . .they both sounded like pickles.

34. The FIRST time you heard them speak, and yet they get bashed on DU
every single day.

Imagine that. No analogies to be drawn to RW behavior there. No irony, huh? :-)

Edited on Sun Aug-29-04 08:39 PM by Hippo_Tron
I think that we should leave the bashing to Bush and not his daughters who really have nothing to do with what is going on. Sure they got caught at a bar for underage drinking when they are 19 but there are tons of 19 year olds that use fake IDs to get into bars, it's pretty much normal behavior for college students these days. Let's focus our negative energy on the people who really deserve it.

38. The "let's make the nice" mentality
Is why we've been getting skull fucked by the GOP for the better part of 10 years.

Make no mistake, it would be great if it could be nicer. But sadly, it's more primal. I'm of the "we have to grease our tanks with their guts" school of thought these days, to paraphrase Patton.

. . .over their shoulders. I wonder if the Bush girls were on the video screens the entire time and that is what the crowd was booing.

Did anybody else catch that? They said that they couldn't be in Miami because they were in NY supporting their Dad...it seemed like a slight toward the Kerry girls.

8. Well when the Bush daughters were speaking. . .
. . .they went straight to the audio feed from the satellite (or tape). Also I wonder if they were booing the Bush twins the whole time (they could have been on screen behind the Kerry girls).

Was that once the booing started, the Kerry girls looked back at the video screen awkwardly.

13. I thought she looked to the side
Edited on Sun Aug-29-04 08:49 PM by ant
I didn't see what may or may not have been on the video screen behind them, but it seemed to me that the blond Kerry daughter looked off to her right, like she was looking towards where the booing was coming from. Her sister was also standing behind her, though, so maybe she was turning towards her, though she was really more to her left...I can't believe I'm engaging in this level of analysis over what a bunch of wasted kids celebrating bad music did. ;)

In any case, you could still sort of hear the audience when the Bush daughters were on, and there was still booing going on. My guess is half the people there didn't know who these chicks were or why they were booing.

Edited to add: Now that I think about it, I don't think the Bush daughters were on the screen the whole time because the Kerry daughters actually sort of introduced them in their little speech, so...I doubt they were just standing there on screen before the introduction. This is FL, remember, a battle ground state. It's not impossible that people were, in fact, booing the Kerry daughters, and then others booed the Bush daughters, or everyone just booed everyone because for some reason there were fully clothed women on stage.

Rule number 1, don't mix sports/entertainment with politics. You would think politicians would know that by now. Why the heck do you think bush screens all of those who attend his rallies.

17. I agree
This would've actually been a really good opportunity for Puffy or whatever he goes by now to come out and make a little speech on the importance of voting and the work he's doing. Bringing out a more neutral personality that people already know and love would've been more effective.

I think it's good that MTV tries to make their audience aware of politics, but I agree this was a lame effort.

18. i can't stand MTV
while kerry did good in that mtv interview. the fact is most young people who use mtv for political advice or info probably are not going to vote anyways.

i also hate it because it's one of the biggest examples of corporate culture and the whole brand name thing and marketing . and of course the music sucks a lot of the times.

i think the best way to reach out to younger people would be to reach out to them through schools and the military bases or wherever candidates are allowed to campaign to the military. even reaching out to their parents and other family is good since i think most enlisted military get info from them.

Announcer announced the Bush girls first, but the Kerry girls came out first, so they got booed by the boobs who didn't know who they were. When they said, "vote for my dad, john kerry", the boos turned to cheers. It was just dumbasses not knowing who was who.

...I wonder how many tickets Jeb and or other Repuke officials were able to get their hands on. The booing could have been a matter of plants placed in the audience for exactly that reason.

29. The MTV Music Awards are one big RUDEFEST and EGOFEST.
I usually tape it, fast forward till I find the one or two interesting performances they actually have in the show each year -- usually no more than that. The rest is a bunch of egomaniacal "artists" thanking "Jesus Christ, their Lord and Savior" for allowing their f-bomb-filled songs (about abusing their bitches) to rise to the top of the charts.

Yes, I'm old. Believe it or not, I actually know who a lot of these artists are. I'm just not thrilled with having to listen to them talk.

The final spectacle was an Outkast performance of "Hey Ya," featuring sexy girls going into voting booths to "choose or lose." Oh brother.

... if Bush is re-selected. Go ahead, all you pinheaded singers and pinheaded singers' fans ... boo the Kerry girls. Let Bush get elected ... Ashcroft and Colin Powell's tight-ass son are gonna bring the wrath of the FCC and the Justice Department down upon your heads ... your music will be censored and your lives will be made a living hell. Enjoy flaunting your cribs-with-the-sex-swings on MTV while you have the chance. Cuz if Dubya stays in charge, women will be forced, by law, to wear pilgrim outfits in your videos.

31. I thought Vanessa and Alexandra were very poised ...
in the face of the boos (I'm watching the tape right now). All four were on to 1) remind young people to vote and 2) ask people to donate money for Hurricane Charley relief.

I think you're right about the Jebster and his ability to pack that place with Bush supporters.

I saw Bruce Willis sitting there smirking, BTW.

He has a picture up of Alexandra trying to 'sssshhhh' the crowd.

Were they boing at what Vanessa was saying? Or were the booing the Bush twins? Were all the daughters on stage at the same time, or visible at the same time?

I just know that Drudge is twisting things in that pathetic, cheap way of his.

41. The Bushettes weren't on stage at all
They were on a supposed satellite feed from NYC where they're helping their Dipshit Daddy, of course.

Drudge is overhyping the boos, as there wasn't really that much, but the boos started after the names of Jenna & Tonic were mentioned.

They were in classic Bush form too, looking hungover and sounding like they had each chain-smoked about half a pack of Camels.

Edited on Sun Aug-29-04 11:59 PM by TheWebHead
He didn't seem to notice that the Bush twins purposely stayed in New York knowing they'd have been booed off the stage and when they cut to the video feed, they muted the crowd. Nobody in the Bush clan goes to any crowd that they aren't assured are friendly supporters. Of course if the tables were turned, they'd be screaming that the "unhinged far-left Hollywood liberals" were rude to the President's kids and that this would "only hurt John Kerry".

44. The Bush Daughters came across better
In my opinion. Vanessa and Alexandria came across like two schoolmarms chastising an unruly classroom, especially when Vanessa rudely "hushed" the crowd.

Jenna and Barbara Bush played their advantage, they were away from the venue, and probably sent a taped message ahead of time. They looked composed, and from a strictly subjective face-value point of view, they just looked more the part in terms of speaking to the MTV crowd. They were composed, hip and attractive whereas the Kerrys came off somewhat wonky in comparision.

The MTV Music Video Awards was a hgh-risk opp, but had a chance at solid rewards. In my opinion, the Bush twins at best made the apperance a wash. The Kerry duo had a chance to perhaps turn it into a plus and they fumbled it.

In any case, I hope young voters paid heed to the calls to vote that surrounded the evening. This year is too important to sit on the sideline.

To Young American Voter in their moment than the Kerrys did. Vanessa and Alexandria looked like policy wonks and came across that way on a night where you could ill afford it.
