Straight from the horse's ass - re: SS
Edited on Sun Aug-29-04 08:33 PM by JPJones
"If you're a younger worker, you better listen very carefully to the presidential debates on Social Security," Bush told the crowd of 10,000 at WesBanco Arena. "The fiscal solvency of Social Security is in doubt for the young workers coming up. Therefore, I think young workers ought to be able to own a personal retirement account, a personal savings account, in order for Social Security to work."

Let's not fix the system, let's destroy it!

My goal is to cut government in half in twenty-five years," Grover Norquist says, "to get it down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub."

8. That's still a tasteless thing to say,
considering the whole Andrea Yates tragedy. What sick bastards do we have running this place? Sweet freakin' jeebus.

2. That's an old, old song
The first time I heard that Social Security was doomed was about 1972. They said that by 1987 or so, it would be bankrupt.

Every couple of years, some new right-wing "think" tank releases a report about how Social Security is a Ponzi Scheme, a fraud, due to collapse, etc. It's all nonsense. It would take a collapse of the USA's financial system to hurt Social Security.

On the other hand, a collapse of the USA's financial system in the wake of an energy crisis is a believable threat.
