As I'm watching the RNC, Republican after Republican likes to say McCain / Palin represent the *real agents of change*. Then they talk about the same old stuff that has gotten us to where we are: lower taxes for the wealthy, more breaks for Big Oil, reducing restrictions on corporations for pollution, furthering breaks for corporations who ship jobs offshore and sadly, many more years of war.
America Is About the Inspired Individual. This is the lipstick Meg Whitman has painted the pig with tonight. This is a new label for an old idea: The Republican Ownership Society with Trickle-down Economics. In otherwords: You are on your own. We will reward the successful. The rest of you, get a job.
That's the republican mantra that has led our society down the path to where we are. But the Republicans are running from their record. They would like you to believe they are about change. Well, they have been about a lot of change, but it's not the kind of change you want. Here is what the Republicans are running from:
Republicans have blocked higher EPA ratings for vehicles for over 20 years. This is Big Oil's legacy, poeple like Cheney, Bush, Ted Stevens, and yes, Sarah Palin.
Republicans have created the K-street lobbyists that have given the corporations the power in washington. This is Newt Gingrich's and all the politicians like Duke Cunningham and Tom DeLay who have gone down in corruption. I have to give McCain this: for one of the creators of this system, he's survived the destructive implosion of it.
Republicans have blocked increasing the minimum wage for decades until the Democrats recently took back the House and were able to shove this bill down the GOPs throat. The blocking of this is definitely one of McCain's legacies (he's been there for 26 years being one of the primary blockers). Breaking this ridiculous road-block to the middle-class is a legacy of Ted Kennedy's and the current Democratic Leadership, the real agents of change.
Republicans have lowered taxes on the wealthy while putting more burden on the poor and middle class as the economy slumped and corporations were rewarded with tax breaks for sending the jobs overseas. This has been happening since the 80s. One of the few republicans still around from that time is, you guessed it, John McCain.
And during the Bush Administration, Republicans nearly destroyed Social Security, which can easily be fixed. But you won't hear a Republican like John McCain tell you that.
And do I really need to get into all the terrible shit the Republicans have done to the U.S. of A. during the Bush Administration? Do I? Anyone who believes John McCain, someone who supported the policies and agenda of this Administration, in John McCain's own words "MORE THAN NINETY PERCENT OF THE TIME", well, then they truly are a glutton for the worst kind of punishment imaginable.
Here is the irony of their ridiculous claim. It's true: Republicans certainly have been agents of change. They've taken this once great country and changed it into a damned disrespected cesspool of corruption that it is. America, if you want to restore the U.S. of A. to it's once great stature, the kind of Country that Kennedy and FDR built, then you must absolutely vote Democratic this year. You must vote for Obama / Biden to get the change you need. Anything else is further change for the worse.
