Poll question: How big of a bounce will Bush get?
Don't inflate the number to make it look like he has failed. Just vote what you actually expect.

3. I agree 1-2
points, gone within a week. Each debate he will lose several points of support. We will win by a large margin.

2. I'll go out on a limb and predict that the media will bounce him 10%
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 12:02 AM by Democat
Probably wrong, but there is little that would shock me after what we've seen of the media so far.

4. Damn, you depressed me.
And here I was feeling so smug. Now I have to go back and read the post about * losing 3 points in the Ohio polls so I can go to sleep happy...

18. But thats impossible
there aren't that many undecideds. Recently undecideds have been just under 10%. And there is no way in hell he is getting 100% of those. Anyways I'm sure you're right that the media spin will be disgusting.

11. If the Dems do their job...
... Bush should lose points this week. The ROG has no accomplishments to brag about, and any attempt to portray Boosh as a moderate should be laughed right out of the news.

The Dems need to take up the recent news issues and keep pounding them home...
  • growing poverty
  • declining health coverage
  • shifting of tax burden from the ultra-rich to the middle class
  • continuing violence and the resurgence of the Taliban in Afghanistan
  • increased terrorism in the period since 9/11
  • we're not going to "invent our way out of our dependence on foreign oil" with faux-Texas oilmen at the helm
  • Halliburton facilitating Iranian oil production, now and during Cheney's time as CEO
  • SBVT attacks are SSDD for a (C)arl Rove-orchestrated campaign (go see "Bush's Brain")
    ...

12. Depends on if Hurricane Francis makes landfall.
This will dampen any bounce he might receive, IMHO.

16. I agree-I think the Hurricane will stop a lot of bounce
the media will turn to covering it--it's headed for Florida right now and it's a big hurricane with signs of increasing strength. Besides, I truly believe that all the voters who could be bounced have already been bounced.

15. 30+ Points (wink)
Images of 9/11 will send all voters flocking to him in numbers never seen before. If they don't it's a failure. ;-)

In all seriousness I expect very little bounce from his convention and I don't believe it will be noticeable.

17. The way the freaking repukes are saying it will go is frightening
someone said today between 6-10 pt bounce??? that just seems so sickening..I realize he will be up over Kerry for a couple weeks but ....hopefully it won't be so high it will be hard to catch up...

19. Go back and look at the 2000 primaries...
...or before 9/11. Bush's ratings improved whenever he wasn't being seen.

The idea of George Bush as President is more tolerable than the reality of George Bush as President.

And it's all reality this week.

Negative bounce inside margin of error.

20. My guess is a temporary bounce of 3 to 4 points
Some folks, mostly undecided who don't follow politics, will catch a bit of the RNC this week. The republicans will do their best to put some lipstick on this pig, and a few people will be fooled for awhile. But the little bounce will not last IMO. People are likely to pay more attention as the election nears. Bush has nothing to point to as positives during his mis-administration. He can only appeal to peoples' fears. Chicken Little (George): "The sky is falling! The sky is falling! Better vote for me!" Bush will try to find some way to weasel out of debating Kerry, because he knows that in a true debate Kerry will clean his clock.
