Interesting NYTIMES article entitled "Bush Takes On Direct Role in Shaping Election Tactics", by top-level CorpGovMedia propagandists "ADAM NAGOURNEY" and "ELISABETH BUMILLER" of the New York Times.
Although this article is mainly meant to portray Bush as someone who is in touch and in charge of his campaign, hands-on, as it were, another part of this article is meant to humanize Karl Rove, who apparently has the "Breakfast Club" of close advisors over at his house every Sunday morning for "eggs and bacon cooked by Mr. Rove", himself, no less.
Here are the pertinent quotes from this custom-made, top-notch political propaganda:
Beyond the involvement of the president himself, aides say the strategy that has brought Mr. Bush to this point is quietly being directed not from the Oval Office, or even his campaign headquarters, but by what his inner circle privately calls the Breakfast Club: a small group of advisers who gather on weekends at Mr. Rove's home in northwest Washington, where, over eggs and bacon cooked by Mr. Rove, they measure the campaign's progress against a detailed plan devised 18 months ago.
But many of the most significant decisions are made out of the spotlight of either the White House or the headquarters. They are instead reached by the Breakfast Club.
For nearly a year, that small group of senior aides from the White House and campaign headquarters has assembled for what Mr. Rove calls "eggies" - cholesterol-laden concoctions of eggs, butter, cream and bacon fat. He serves them with slabs of bacon. There, they discuss a schedule of attacks on Mr. Kerry, speeches by Mr. Bush, and forthcoming television advertisements and strategic thrusts, according to several aides.
Wow! Sounds yummy. Can't you just taste those eggies? Cant you just see them on your plate? Can't you just see Rove in the kitchen stirring them, apron around his waist? Can't you just see the "Breakfast Club" hungrily waiting in the kitchen? And, gee, they call it the "Breakfast Club"! Now I feel all warm and fuzzy, cuz it reminds me of that great teen movie from the 80s.
I have to wonder why Rove & Co. bothered to concoct this little mind-movie for us. Perhaps they are trying to neutralize Rove's burgeoning image as a cynical, machiavellian manipulator? Yes, they are trying to humanize him. And from whence did spring that image montrous image of Rove? Right here on DU and other places on the Net. We created Rove the monster, and they are moving to counteract that image we created. Now, that is a good thing.
But look how masterfully they did it. And look, they have two of the top political propagandists, Nagourney and Bumiller, in their hip pockets. A real tour de force of political propaganda, this article. They are so good, so powerful, sometimes it almost seems as if they are toying with Kerry. It is scary.....
