Best protest chant today- "N.Y.P.D - WHERE'S YOUR RAISE?"

Saw that on Stephanie's thread with a first-hand protest report.

That has to be the best thing they could have done to prevent any trouble!

We ARE on the side of the police, and they need to know it. Bush and Bloomberg are screwing the police.

Bush is screwing the Firefighters too.

Bush screwed ALL the responders in NY by not giving the money he promised.

Bush endangered all the responders, volunteers, and the general public in NY by lying that the air was safe, when they knew it was poisonous. How many will suffer or die because of that one act?

Chanting for the police raise was a great idea. We need to do more of that during big protests.. Let the cops and anyone else that might be annoyed know that not only are we on their side, they are on our side too.

"N.Y.P.D - WHERE'S YOUR RAISE?"

"N.Y.P.D - WHERE'S YOUR RAISE?"

1. Thanks! I came up with it myself, as we went by MSG.
Edited on Sun Aug-29-04 11:40 PM by Stephanie
SO many cops there, of course. Everyone jumped in on that chant, and the cops couldn't help smiling. It was really funny. So then we did it a few more times when we saw big groups of cops.

Hey, cops are working people. They are labor. They are union. And so of course they are being screwed by the GOP.

NYC cops and firefighters have not had a contract for two years. They haven't had a raise since before 9/11. They have union members following Bloomberg around just to yell at him.

It's outrageous that not only is the RNC here to exploit our DEAD and our tragedy, they will also exploit our COPS and FIREFIGHTERS who lost so much and suffered so much grief and they refuse to PAY THEM even a cost-of-living increase???? TYPICAL REPUG BULLSHIT.

6. Your idea? Even more impressive!!

Damn, hats off to ya!!

I always talk to anyone who is blue collar union, amazing that anyone like that would support a republican, much less a right-wing fanatic like the Bushies.

The NYPD and Firefighters havent had a contract in two years?!

No wonder this march came off so smoothly. The cspan coverage was awesome.

16. You, Stephanie, are a GENIUS.
That chant is brilliant on so many levels.

It's a core democratic message (the transfer of wealth up the ladder, screwing over ALL people who work for a living, rather than cash dividend checks) AND it's the OPPOSITE of the cops vs Dems theme the press desperately wants to see come to fruition. Also, it just could get a few R-voting cops to think twice.

Genius.

17. Everybody joined in -
The crowd got it right away and picked it up and chanted with us. It was very funny when the cops couldn't help smiling - they were trying to look very tough but that cracked them up. Well, some of them. And it was at the most tense location, in front of MSG. We will definitely resurrect that one in future.

Thanks!

3. Thank you Kelley!
The other day some here (myself included) suggested that protesters chant "More pay for New York Cops!" but I like your version better! :)

Thanks again! I'm sure New York's finest loved it!

them well. SO MANY are so young, just kids. Everyone of them I encountered were great. When the firetrucks were going to put the "dragon fire" out everybody cheered, applauded, and waved to the firemen and they waved right back.

5. The NYPD & FDNY are getting screwed, like all Ny'ers
We should all join ranks and protest together. Thanks to the NYPD & FDNY, for all they do. Bush has turned them from heroes to zeroes. All this money spent for security for this stupid exploitative republican convention should be going to them instead.

9. I think the recent threads that were linked at Buzzflash and
Democrats.com have brought in some cool people to post here. That's my guess. We're inundated with great new posters.

13. Yes, you're right

Unfortunately I'm normally wary of new posters, there are so many trolls and provocateurs it gets annoying.

But you are right, there have been a lot of new posters that are real Dems. There are also a lot more threads that have been linked recently by dailykos, atrios, et al.

Just the top bloggers are drawing numbers that rival cable networks like CNBC. And all the Dem sites are getting huge numbers.

There is a ground swell forming.

12. This billboard ^ is from the NYFD union website
http://ufalocal94.org/

They want New Yorkers to call 311, which is the general switchboard for the city, any question or complaint that is not a 911 emergency. They want us to call and complain that they not gotten their contract or raise.
