Columbus Dispatch Poll: Kerry gains ground in Ohio
A Columbus Dispatch poll of Ohio taken from Aug 18-27, indicates that John Kerry has gained ground in Ohio since their last poll. Here are the results:

Kerry: 46% (45% in last poll)
Bush: 46% (47% in last poll)

margin of error +/- 2%

Also the Senate race in Ohio is tightening:

Voinovich: 45% (previous poll 47%)
Fingerhut: 31% (previous poll 26%)

But the key is both incumbents Bush and Voinovich are under 50%.

1. Run ERIC Run!

Please DU'ers take a moment to check in with what Ohio US Senator candidate Eric Fingerhut is doing. Check the link below.

Eric is WALKING ACROSS OHIO, an effort to shed light on his race.

He is just one of the most capable candidates we in Ohio could hope to have. Please pray for him. Thanks so much!!

6. WI-----is that, like, you are from Wisconsin???
If so, do tell me what is going on. I think it was Gallup who has Kerry down two points to Bush and I thought Kerry had a 5-6 point lead on Bush. Point blank--are we in trouble there?? I've been very nervous about it for months. I think Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa are shaping up but I just can't figure out Wisconsin. I'm glad to see this Ohio poll because that seemed to be opening up in favor of Bush and Florida seemed to slip back to Bush. MO they had as Kerry like 2 points behind Bush, I think. Oh, who the hell knows anymore!!! Anyway, fill me in on Wisconsin, please. I assume it's going to hinge on getting the votes out in Milwaukee and Madison, correct??

Three polls in the last week have given Bush about a 3-point lead here--LA times, Rasmussen and Gallup. It is discouraging but we will turn it around. Madison is solid for Kerry that is clear from all the signs in yards as well as activity at the Farmers Market on Saturdays (as well as historic voting), Milwaukee will go to Kerry. But Bush is doing unexpectedly well in Western Wisconsin (places like Eau Claire and La Crosse) which went narrowly for Gore last time. Our trump card may be Russ Feingold. Democrats will turn out in droves to turn out for Russ and hopefully vote for Kerry as well.

10. funny-- I would have thought all those U of Wisconsin towns like
Eau Claire, LaCrosse, Platteville, Whitewater, Stevens Point, etc. would have a good number of Dems. Of course, maybe they have become overridden with conservatives since the 60's since they are surrounded (many of them) by rural areas. Did they purge the liberal profs?? I tell you, I just don't understand what is going on there...how did they get so brainwashed over the years??

13. well I think you are overreacting
A three point lead is within the margin of error and remember too Gore won Wisconsin by a very close margin.

11. I'm also from WI..not to worry..Kerry WILL win here!
First off, Zogby which is a fairly detailed polling source has Kerry ahead here.

Secondly, Badger Poll's are what local media sources here use for tracking Presidential elections and we haven't had one here since Spring.

As for voters here, I know Eleven voters here who are going with Kerry that have either never voted before or haven't voted in 10-15-20 years. All are disgusted with Bush and while they aren't always thrilled with Kerry..its the "anybody but Bush" mentality that is going to get them to the polls and oust Bush.

They are ALL very excited to be voting on Nov. 2nd. :toast:

14. I think we can win too
but if we are pinning our hopes on Badger Poll, remember too that they have had in their last two polls Bush ahead, but I agree just because we are three points down is not reason to panic.

12. Fingerhut
Fingerhut is really closing in on Voinovich fast. He went from 21% down to 14% down in a month, with over 20% undecided. It's not that people like Voinovich, its that they don't know Fingerhut.

In the poll, Voinovich has I believe a 100% name recognition, yet only 45% like him. If Fingerhut can close the poll, he can get more money, which leads to more name recognition, which leads to those undecideds comming to his side.

Also, Ohio may be one of the swift boat states, but I have seen a total of zero adds on tv here in Columbus. The only place I have seen them is on CNN/MSNBC/Fox News/ext when they are talking about them.
