Update on espionage in Pentagon.....
this is serious....did the man mentioned in the news (I think his name is Franklin) give false information to favor Israel. What is the story?

1. Read these links
Juan Cole:

Fomenting a War on Iran
http://www.juancole.com/2004_08_01_juancole_archive.html#109376785516786360

Follow the links in that article, especially the one to a piece by Josh Marshall, Laura Rozen and Paul Glastris in the Washington Monthly.

Then read Justin Raimondo:

The Axis of Treason

2. This is effing brilliant, really.
If I had been in power on September 11, I'd have called up Sharon and told him he was just going to have to withdraw to 1967 borders, or face the full fury of the United States. Israel would be much better off inside those borders, anyway. It can't absorb 3 million Palestinians and retain its character, and it can't continue to hold 3 million Palestinians as stateless hostages without making itself inhumane and therefore un-Jewish. And then I'd have thrown everything the US had at al-Qaeda in Afghanistan, and frog-marched Bin Laden off to justice, and rebuilt Afghanistan to ensure that al-Qaeda was permanently denied a base there. Iraq, well, Iraq was contained.

Let's put this guy in the State Department.

3. who said that?
sounds like a combination of Anonymous and Richard Holbrooke

too lazy to read all that.....getting more and more like the chimp every day

Juan Cole is just about the single best source for an overview on the ME that I've seen; he seems to the combination of knowledge/wisdom to sift through the myriad, contradictory reports, recognize the dogma/grinding axes, and present a POV closer to reality than any other single outlet I've come across

he also thinks that there's pretty much no hope in the immediate/near/medium range future
