Is it customary to not campaign during the opposition's convention?

I heard this on another thread. I didn't know that. What was BUsh doing during the DNC?

I'm not a gloom and doom type person, but taking a vacation with only two months to go? This week will be whoring week that too.

Bush was playing dress up cowboy in Crawford for the Dem convention. Come to think of it, that's business as usual.

5. Cheney broke that custom

Normally neither the president nor vice president would campaign during the other party's convention, but Cheney campaigned during the democratic convention, so I believe it's fair game now - although I expect we will hear some whining.

If you break with tradition to pick and choose which unwritten rules you will break, you should expect your opponent to do the same.

6. Goodbye Custom

There is far too much at stake for us to lie back and lose. Going on vacation during August is what cost Michael Dukakis the WH. Kerry won't repeat that mistake.
