Sarah Palin - out after the debates?
Bear with me... the fast tracking of her ethics investigation to the second week of October raises the possibility of an interesting scenario.

Palin will campaign, be a pit bull for McCain and try to sway voters for the next month, culminating in the debate against Biden the first week of October. Who knows how she will perform, but odds are good that she will be seriously smacked down by Biden.

The ethics investigation is set to conclude about a week later. This opens a window of opportunity to dump her after the debate for the excuse of 'ethics violations' or defend her and keep her for the rest of the campaign. I wonder if that decision to keep her will hinge on the success of debate rather than a ruling by the ethics panel.

Moving up the ethics investigation actually gives McCain a decision point - a window of opportunity where he can keep Palin or appoint a new VP nominee of his liking. Any new candidate would not have to go through a debate against Biden or any serious vetting. This could easily give McCain the option to throw some sort of last minute October surprise with a second VP pick.

Stranger things have happened...

1. If that turned out to be the case, Biden should scream "do over"

4. Look how they glossed over Arnold Schwarzenegger's transgressions even
forming an organization to change the Constitution so he can run for President.

3. He is too stubborn to drop her. I think he would rather lose with her than admit

the mistake...actually it is not really up to him anyway. It is what Big Oil and the Fundies want to do that will decide if she is in or out.

8. Don't be surprised to see her cancel the debate altogether.

If they feel it would do more damage for her to debate Biden than they would see from her skipping the debate, they won't hesitate to have her skip it.

10. That won't happen, but if it did Biden should show up anyway...
...use the air time to have him discuss all of his policy points to viewers.

9. Uhhh, I have a question about that. Both parties were so intent
on what they termed the "mandatory legalities of what HAD to be done at the conventions". There were a lot of minutia, but the two things they both focused on was the ACTUAL NOMINATION AND ACCEPTANCE OF BOTH THEIR CANDIDATES! Since Sarah HAS BEEN NOMINATED AND SHE ACCEPTED THE NOMINATION. what would HAVE to happen for them to replace her on the ticket? Sub question...there are deadlines in several States for filing to get candidates names on the ballot in Nov. I don't know what States are involved, but I've heard some of those deadlines are VERY VERY CLOSE. When the media was talking about the Pubs posponing their convention because of Gustov, several of the talking heads said they CAN'T because of some of those deadlines. If tthey miss them, they won't be on those ballots at all!

Any of you know what actually HAVE to happen if she gets into real trouble and has to be replaced?

11. That would be too late. All signs are that McCain is attached to her for the duration (of campaign)
