Bush is making taped phone calls asking for ABSENTEE VOTER Reg. Forms
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 08:03 PM by jean
I just got home and listened to a taped message from bush. He's asking for absentee ballot request forms - that we fill them out and send them back asap.

The call was made at about noon today. Here is the text:

Young man's voice:
"Hold for an important call from President George W Bush."

Bush:

"Hello.

This is George W Bush calling to ask you to fill out your absentee ballot request form.

It is coming in the mail.

With your help Dick Cheney and I can win in November so we can keep working for a safer world and a more hopeful America.

Our country has overcome a lot and now our economy is recovering and we're making progress on the war on terror.

I'm asking for your vote.

It's important.

Please look for your absentee ballot request form, fill it out and return it as soon as possible.

This call was paid for by Bush/Cheney04 INC."

Who else is getting this call??? Are the Dems pushing absentee ballot voter reg like this? I live in Minnesota.

1. A friend in Michigan got one of those calls
and got right on the horn to the county election board, the local DNC office and anybody else she could think of.

The election board seemed to think anything they sent out like that would be completely bogus, that they weren't authorized to send stuff like that out.

Do NOT rely on these bastards to send you anything. If you need an absentee ballot, try the instructions at http://www.paperballots.com/genereric2.html

In fact, do it anyway. Don't trust those machines.

2. a nationwide phenomenon?
this appears to be happening all over the place. an earlier thread noted calls in Maine and other places. My g/f lives in Ohio and got one today. She's neither a Repub or an absentee voter.

A desperate ploy to get as many votes as possible before Kerry smokes him in the debates?

3. I think it's because they know the electonic voting
machines can be hacked, and when they are hacked they can count all their absentee votes and declare they are the winner because they got more votes. sounds stupid, but there's got to be a good reason for them doing this - they've never done it before, and I suspect they know even a Dem can hack the machines so their "paper" trail will be better than the Dems. I'm thinking the entire country should vote absentee, but then they get lost don't they? hmmmmmm

5. I got the call too!
Just about puked to hear his voice on my answering machine! I live in Champaign County, Ohio. Then when I checked the mail, my 23 year old son (who is definitely not a registered Repub.)received Bush literature along with an absentee ballot request form to send into our local election board. Go figure!

6. i canvassed for the Kerry team last weekend and we are getting
"soft voters" ie Dems who are registered, but have missed voting in General elections, to fill out absentee forms. We take them into the county and then follow up with phone calls to remind them to get those ballots in :)

14. THIS IS HIGHLY ILLEGAL AND MUST BE REPORTED-VERY WIDESPREAD
from the emails we are receiving. RNC and their computers seem to have really hit the phones starting Saturday.

Here's one example and reply:

Email Rec'd
------------

Hi there,

My dad recieved a phone call this evening from the bush campaign, telling him how great him and Cheney are. (which of course made him mad, as he is definatley voting for Kerry).

The kicker is at the end of the phone call, Bush's voice said that he and Cheney were going to make it easy for him to vote and he should recieve an absentee balot in the mail in the next few days.

Is this legal???? I always thought that you had to request an absentee balot. I think the Kerry Campaign needs to keep an eye on this if it is illegal and bring it to the attention of those that can correct this.

I would like to know, as it sounds awfully fishy to me....

==REPLY==

That is highly illegal and its another GOP Dirty Trick.

You need to forward this matter to the appropriate Kerry-Edwards people, the DNC, and contact you local election officials.

Best Regards,

HoustonAttorney

16. I think the point of it is to get people to fill them out
and send them in NOW. So they can't change their mind and their vote in the final weeks. Because Bush knows that Kerry usually for some reason kicks ass in the end of a campaign.

18. They also want early votes to take advantage of convention bump
and they are afraid the tide will turn against Bushco in the weeks right before election.
