Bush's Approval Rating Hovers Below 50 Percent (Aug 30)
Aug. 30, 2004 -- As the Republican Convention begins in New York, President George Bush and Sen. John Kerry are locked in a tight race and the president's approval rating is languishing below the 50 percent mark.

Those are some of the findings of the most recent NPR-sponsored poll done by Democrat Stan Greenberg and Republican Glen Bolger, who took over from colleague Bill McInturff for the latest survey.

As NPR's Mara Liasson reports, the poll's results underscore the importance this week's party convention has for President Bush's reelection hopes.

2. Although it's 6 days old, I read the numbers.
In July, it was 48-46 Kerry and in this poll it's 50-45 Kerry. Also, Kerry's numbers in the battleground states are better than the national results.

3. The unemployment reports for Sept. and Oct. will be very good.
Count on the Bush* appointees to dish up some very good results. Seasonally adjusted household survey numbers will indicate a huge surge in job creation!

Then in the November report (after the election), the Sept. and Oct. numbers will be "revised" downward to reflect the fact no jobs were created. A technical error will be cited. The media will allot one sentence to the revision in a late Friday newscast.

6. A good reminder
Bush is going down. Polls will bounce around just due to statistical error, but fundamentals don't change so quickly without major events.

8. And just think

Kerry has not been spending any money on ads since the DNC, we've had the flip-flopping bs and the slime boast scandal and still Chimpy McCokespoon can't get any lead?

Just wait till the debates, till Kerry begins spending his money, getting his message out, and us defending the atrocious way he has been treated.

I will not predict anything, but if we can get thru this week without any major good play by the Repukes I LOVE OUR chances for a BIG WIN...At best the Reps declare Holy War and piss off 200 million Americans (leaving about 70 million on their side)...at worst they string coherent sentences together.
