The Bush website is heavily promoting EARLY voting.
This is really freaking me out and I just hope to God the Kerry campaign is paying attention to things like this.

http://www.georgewbush.com/VoteEarly/

Why, why, why is Bush telling people to vote EARLY? And this is exactly what Jeb Bush is telling Republicans in Florida, too.

3. Well, that's kinda interesting. I wonder if they know something's coming
down.

I think they just want to maintain their stronghold on absentee ballots. So many Dems will vote absentee this year.

20. I could understand that...
i'm surprised the "pledge" forms at their conventions don't include a fine print line about sacrificing their firstborn if they renege on their promise to vote for the MF. oh, wait, they'll be taking them anyway, won't they. never mind.

2. They are even making phone calls.
My uncle got a phone call this morning with a recording of bush's voice telling him about absentee ballots and voting for him. My uncle is disabled and always votes absentee. Unfortunately for bush, he will not be voting for him. He didn't like getting the voice recorded message and he is calling the board of elections tomorrow.

12. They'll call and call and call until they know you've requested one. Then
armies of "Christian soldiers" will come knocking on your door, again and again until you fill it out on the spot and give it to them. Ralph Reed is going to try to go national with the tactics he used in Georgia to oust Max Cleland.

4. I read an article yesterday or today
Edited on Tue Aug-31-04 12:04 AM by LizW
about shenanigans going on with the counting of absentee ballots in Florida. Something about the party affiliation being printed on the outside of the envelopes. I'll find it and post a link. Maybe it sheds some light on what the Bushies are doing.

On Edit: This is not the article I was talking about, but it is interesting in light of the Bushies urging Floridians to vote absentee. http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/news/politics/8769650.htm

5. My local Dem's called to see if I want an absentee ballot but
I said no because I want to go vote on election day.

In 2000, they said they don't even count the absentee ballots unless it is close enough that it could change the outcome (I'm not sure if that is true or not).

I want to vote that day and (as the saying goes) I'll crawl over broken glass to vote against Chimpy (and for Kerry, of course).

14. Vote Early
That's right! Absentee voting = paper trail, get it?
They want Florida Dems to vote electronically, and repubs to vote by absentee so it will be counted, if necessary.
It is a conspiracy for the entire country.
My husband and I are voting by absentee ballot and all of you should do the same

10. Thanks to election reform after the Y2k fiasco, early voting will be HUGE
this year. In Florida, 15 percent voted early in 2000; the percentage is predicted to be double that this year.

29 states now have early voting with NO explanation necessary. The situation varies not only by state but also by county within some states.

Go to http://www.ezvote.org and type in a 5-digit zipcode. You'll get the most thorough neighborhood voter info I've ever seen, including specific options for voting early in that area.

The 'Business-Industry Political Action Committee" (BIPAC) is the host of this page and the source of a great graphic in a recent free online Wall Street Journal article. See http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x631925

15. I Agree!!!
Why do you think Diebold and the other electronic system companies are wining/dining the secretarys of state?
Why do you think Bev at BBV can't get anyone to listen to her?

The "fix" is in....vote by absentee ballot; they ALL get counted

16. I recieved a call too.
Once you cast an absentee ballot, no matter how early, you are unable to change it, correct? I think Bush may be trying to secure votes before the debates and before his polls drop even further.

21. This can't be legal
Anyone who gets a call, please save the recording and if you ever get the ballott, save that, and get it to your local Dem office, Kerry campaign, or ACLU. At least where I live, you have to APPLY by mail for an absentee ballot, they don't just come in the mail. This smells funny. Make people think they voted absentee so they don't go to the polls. Are the Bushies above that?????
I don't think so.

19. Why, why, why is Bush telling people to vote EARLY?
Obviously an early vote is one they don't have to worry about.

1- No last minute pang of conscience change.
2- No late breaking news impact.
3- No chance that unforseen events (car problems, illness, etc.) will keep them from voting.

Dean's website also heavily promoted early voting. I think it locks you in. I remember a lot of Dean people that wanted to change their vote by the time election day came and they couldn't.
