Today Show's coverage of "Lipstick" story was VERY good for our side...

First, they showed Obama's remarks.

Then they read the McCain statement demanding an apology.

Then, they played McCain making the same remarks about Hillary's Health Care plan last October.

Bottom line:

1. The pig line gets MORE play.
2. The McCain camp is on the defensive, looking like whiners and hypocrits.
3. The media spin on this goes in our favor.

Any time one side is "DEMANDING AN APOLOGY" from the other, then they've lost the news cycle.

Big win for us yesterday. Big win.

3. The rethugs lie again; the lipstick remark was made after Obama
listed policies of McBush that aren't being addressed; imo it had nothing to do with Palin. But I know the truth doesn't matter to these POSs.

8. it's spreading ... a news report last night (local station) was going on about
"blowing smoke" ...

Repeating the Republican talking point - "McCain votes with Bush 90 percent? But Obama votes with his party 97 percent ..."

without pointing out that many of those votes that Obama and the Dems voted for were for stuff that Bush approved of ... it's an apples to oranges argument ...

5. Thanks for the detailed report.
It appears the media is beginning to do its job after eight years of Bush. McCain/Palin's attacks on them may have helped.

And, I'm no fan of Matt Lauer. I didn't even change the channel to him, it was there from last night's local news at 11.

22. Andrea said most of the reporters on the conference call dismissed Republican complaint
According to Andrea most of the reporters on the call were woman and they basically asked the spokesperson "Are you serious?".

Sounds like the press is finally starting to get riled up at McCain's strategy.

Edited on Wed Sep-10-08 07:29 AM by No Surrender
Or was their video library inaccessible this morning? Maybe they could borrow the clip The Today Show aired.

I hope our side uses it again and again.

21. They're supposed to be...this is what being on the offensive looks like
Pat Buchanan and Joe Scarborough whining and sounding pathetic. These guys are gonna be either attacking, or whining about an attack. We want them whining about an attack. We won yesterday. Very good day and very good move.

Old Dad was right about that, it turns out.

I'm glad to see Obama and campaign taking the gloves off, ever so slyly.

Fuck McCain-Palin, and fuck their indignation.

10. McCain is either suffering dementia...
...or his brain has been surgically rewired!! I can understand the others trying to make something of the lipstick remark. But he's the guy who has used that same joke!!

When is somebody going to insist that he apologize to Chelsea??? That was a deliberate and cruel joke directed at a child!

11. you will change your mind once you see the new McCain ad............
it's disgusting.

They start by showing Palin's remark at her acceptance speech............then follow it quickly with Obama's comment, THEN quickly add a Katie Couric evening news comment about "there being too much sexism in politics"

Brilliant ad, and we have TO FIGHT BACK!

This ad is going on TV today................and NOW they are asking Obama to APOLOGIZE!

am getting apoplectic, and I'm over 60........have to calm down now.

14. You're wrong on several counts:

1) McCain released it as an "internet only" ad. They don't want this out on TV

2) The media narrative has spun in OUR FAVOR on this incident. It's working FOR us.

3) You're over 60 and apoplectic? You need to understand how the game is played TODAY. Obama's campaign is putting the McCain camp on the defensive. Any time you get the other side demanding an apology, YOU ARE WINNING.

Has Karl Rove taught you NOTHING the past 8 years about what it takes to win?

Politics ain't beanbag. The McCain "internet-only" ad is a weak response that shows that the "pig" story bloodied them.

I say... open up a NEW line of attack today....

15. If McCain was smart, he'd just ignore the whole deal
All he is doing is reinforcing the association of Palin with the "lipstick on a pig" expression. Pretty much everyone knows what that expression means--even the low information voters. I think McCain is counting on Obama apologizing, but it is a risky move, because if he stands firm, then they just ended up making a huge strategic blunder.

16. Obama should call a presser
Right Now!!
He should say exactly what he said again at at press conference and then take questions and hammer McCain through the whole thing. He should tell the press who is running for president and get the conversation back on McCain. The press is talking way to much about Palin, it's exactly what the Rovians want. Obama needs to call them on it, to their face.
