Obama Should Apologize For Pig Comment
something like this:

Well, I didn't intend it that way, and I'm sorry you took it that way. Of course, since the McCain campaign can't really address the substance of my statement - that they really don't offer anything different than the past 8 years - they have to attack the metaphor. I hope Senator McCain will also apologize for the times during the primary he called Hillary Clinton a pig by applying the same phrase to her.

51. Woo boy.
Obama isn't attacking her family. The blogs are. She made herself out to be the Perfect Hockey Mom and it turns out that if was indeed a lipstick wearing pig it would be an improvement.

And, we will win, sweet cheeks. Take that one back to FR and chew on it.

54. Excuse me, but personal attacks are part and parcel of politics, have been since the beginning
If either Palin or McCain can't stand them, then they need to get out of the race. Furthermore, the comment wasn't meant to insult Palin, it was meant to insult McCain.

Palin brought her family into this race. She is using her baby as a prop, using her family as part of her resume, using her "family values" as a weapon. She brought her family into the national debate, she can't very well call foul and declare them off limits. Oh, and this lipstick comment wasn't about her family, it was about McCain. Obama has stated, and followed through with his conviction that Palin's family is off limits. Fine and dandy for him, but they are out there as fair game for the rest of us.

And as far as winning on issues alone, well good luck with that. Bush won and he didn't run on issues he ran on fear. This is US politics, and it isn't played by the Marquis of Queensbury rules. Get used to it.

63. Why are you so ignorant? There were no personal attacks, it wasn't about
Palin. You need to go find the correct board for your views; this ain't it.

Why not educate yourself? THIS is what was said prior to the lipstick comment. They're taking everything out of context and then lying about it. Get it? Same as it ever was:

"John McCain Says He's About Change, Too - Except For Economic Policy, Healthcare Policy, Tax Policy, Education Policy, Foreign Policy And Karl Rove-Style Politics"

Obama was talking directly about McBush's policies and said nothing about Palin.

The word is "disgusting" and he may not be able to "win on issue", but he can "win on the issues". Furthermore, the really disgusting behavior that I have seen this election cycle has been perpetrated against Obama and his family and they have been coming from McSame/Palin and the Repubs. So, until they apologize for what has been ridiculous lies, attacks, racist comments and behavior, he should not apologize. Besides, he did not say or do anything wrong. He wasn't attacking her.

No one attacked her, and certainly not to the degree she deserves.

It's faux outrage, and only the Republicans can successfully deploy the apron shield on behalf of their candidate.

35. I was at the Town Hall in Lebanon and got to meet Obama - he has nothing to apologize for
Edited on Wed Sep-10-08 07:31 AM by TornadoTN
He was talking about McCain's policies in direct comparison to the Bush administration. He had been talking about how McCain was claiming to bring "change" when he's just more of the same - he said you can take an old fish and wrap it in a newspaper and call it change, but that doesn't make it so. Later on, he commended Palin as a mother and commented on the fact that he has respect for her as a mother since he has two kids that wear he and Michelle out.

The only people stupid enough to think he was referring to Palin or McCain as people (even though I'll go as far as to say they are both the lowest of pigs) would be Republicans who are either too stupid to listen or those looking for an excuse to whine and get some press exposure. Barak needs to move on, stand by his characterization of McCain's policies, and leave it at that. This is a non-issue that McCain's trying to milk to keep his name in the media.

Other than that, it was a great night and a great experience. I drove a couple hours to get to the Town Hall, I have a college friend who is a teacher at the school and she called me up and got me in. It struck me that so many people from so many walks of life had come to see Obama speak in a typically strong GOP region. There were even more people outside waiting!!! I even had a few minutes to speak to Obama myself - which I'll write about a bit later on once my work is caught up. The man is amazing and beyond the biggest compliments and characterizations we can heap upon him here.

Nothing to apologize for. I think the lipstick comment is great. It works on several levels: the McCain attempt to coop Obama's' change meme and that Palin is not qualified to be VP.

Only the most partisan would think Obama meant that Palin is a pig.
How is she a pig? Is she a glutton? Is she promiscuous, is she personally filthy? I think Bill has been whispering in Obama's ear.

64. Disagree. Instead, spin it right back
This is a PERFECT set up for Obama if he plays it right. The media is covering it, now it's time to strike. Something like "The comment wasn't even directly about them. They can't handle a simple metaphor. So much for pitbulls and mavericks"

An apology admits wrong doing. Saying nothing shows uncertainty. Instead, attack them over this, and you not only deflect any guilt, but paint them as weak too.

65. No Fucking Way!
Obama needs to issue one formal statement pointing out the obvious: this was not a personal attack, and the shouted assertions that it was a personal attack are just another distraction from the real issues of the campain... issues McCain and Palin will do anything to avoid discussing.

67. Hell no
He does NOT need to kiss any more ass. He is already too gracious in my opinion. He should say ask when McCain is going to apologize for his crack about Hilary's daughter Chelsea and all those women and girl civilians he's gotten killed over in IRAQ since he and Sarah are so worried about gender foul play.... then while he is sitting on his stool in one of those town hall meeting things, he should grab an english langauge dictionary on common expressions, open it up and read the definition of the phrase lipstick on a pig then follow it by saying---but see thats what happens when you don't focus on education and focus on meaningless ticky tack shit...and then the coup de grace KEEP USING THE EXPRESSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

An apology would be tantamount to an admission that it was a deliberate, sexist slur.

75. Obama has nothing to apologize for.. nada, not one thing
This is just another rovian trick to try and get the discussion off issues. He was not addressing mrs mooseburger.. He was addressing the mcsame campaign.

To even suggest that he should apologize for nothing is off the charts. McCain should be the one apologizing because he did do something low and dirty.

Running a commerical about sex education and mislabeling Obama, who was addressing sexaul child abuse and how to handle it.

If you are going to suggest apologies to anyone, than I would suggest them for mccain.

77. It was, at most, a double entendre, and not worthy of an apology.

Even though I am very unhappy with the lefts Rovian-style rumor mongering and smears of Palin (instead of focusing on issues and political stances), but this is not one of them.

92. He better not fucking apologize. I remember the Dick Durbin abandoning his constituents to lick the
boots of his GOP masters when he DARED to criticize the U.S. concentration camp at Guantanamo Bay.

The Dick Durbin has been lost to us ever since.

96. Moosecrap! He has nothing to apologize for. He was talking about McCain's message of "change". In
fact, Obama should embrace it, show the comment in context in an ad, and then show how McCain used it when talking about Hillary Clinton's health plan a few months ago.
