The Midnight Rally in Ohio is brilliance on Kerry's part
It is a nerve wracking time, but once Bush formally accepts renomination on Thursday night a new phase of this campaign will begin--the formal fall campaign. Yes, the campaign hasn't even formally begun--it traditionally opens on Labor Day.

Kerry is going to be ready too. As we have heard he is going to have a rally only a couple of hours after Bush's acceptance speech in Ohio, and I have been a guy who has been critical of some of Kerry's strategy, but this is a brilliant move. The cable shows will still be yapping about the GOP convention when Kerry starts his midnight rally. We can gurantee that most of the cable news stations plus C-SPAN will carry it live. Why? because it is being billed as a refutation of Bush's acceptance speech.

So the battle is being joined. The campaign is going to formally open with a bang. Both parties will have had their conventions and we can look forward to the debates. The debates will be the key to this election. I say "Let Kerry be Kerry" don't try and make him "funny or cute" so that he can cut into Bush's lead on who seems more friendly. Let Bush have that. What Kerry will have going for him is competence, intelligence and the ability to form complete and thoughtful sentences. In short, he will look like a president.

Remember too, the polls will fluctuate back and forth, but we had a tough August and we are still running even with Bush. The media doesn't play this up but in such must win states as Ohio and Virigina Bush is in trouble. Keep hope alive.

5. But... but...
According to so many "DUers," our campaign is weak and ineffective...

6. well to be honest I have been critical of
Kerry when he didn't respond, in my view, quickly enough on Swift Boaters, but, I think the campaign is right on target on this.

7. Huh?
Let them get away with a pack of lies for a week, and then have a speech like that at midnight when only the hard core political junkies will be watching (at least in the eastern US).

10. Oh, please
What do YOU advise that Kerry does between now Thursday to draw focus away from the Republican convention?

A rally? A major policy speech? A press conference?

12. yes, but I'm not sure about the media
they have no excuse for blowing off the Cleland-in-Crawford confrontation. They should STILL be talking about that moment, as one of the defining moments in this campaign, and as one of the most dramatic moments in ANY campaign in history.

13. I agree it was highly dramatic
and I think Max Cleland should do more for the campaign. Put him in an ad on the issue of the Swift Boat issue. He is very credible.
