Claims are that it will be breaking in WaPo, it has to do with McShame and prescription drugs and it will hit today.

82. My Grandmother had Alzheimers
She would seem perfectly normal sometimes, but then you'd go for a walk with her and she'd insist that she lived somewhere else, and would get very beligerent, and you would have to practically drag her back to her house.

I would never celebrate anyone having Alzheimer's. it's such a horrible thing to watch anyone go through.

you can be damn sure though, that I would never vote for someone with Alzheimer's. They might seem fine one day, and the next...If this is true, he should step down.

31. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever read here. Who is
celebrating somebody having Alzheimer's?

We're saying that someone with Alzheimer's is not capable of being President.

We have ALL seen McCain's forgetfulness on the trail. Just that has made many people believe he isn't capable of running the country. But to have Alzheimer's? That is a deal breaker.

If he has early dementia, the nation needs to know. Full stop.

We've had seven years of demented Dubya's administration being run by Cheney's gang, in secret.

We don't want Sarah Palin running McZombie's administration from the basement or a secret chapel.

... because normally his physician wouldn't be allowed to tell anybody if he were taking Aricept (or whatever). Maybe the legality of releasing his medical records without his permission, because potentially having a president of the United States who is non compos mentis is a matter of national security and all, was why lawyers were involved.

if this is true, I actually feel bad for McCain, sort of. Alzheimer's is a terrible disease, and all the Aricept in the world won't prevent it from hitting with full force sooner or later. McCain got completely screwed by his own party in 2000. If Bush had run a fair and honest campaign (I know, not a possibility, but just for the sake of argument), McCain would've been the nominee then. Would he have won the election? Hard to say, because I don't know whether he would have been as likely to steal it. But he seemed determined to get to be president one way or the other, especially after that nightmare. So, 8 years later, he's still just as determined, but 8 years older with the health changes that 8 years of aging bring.

If he is showing early signs of Alzheimer's, he has no business running for president now. I fear this was the plan of the RW--get an unhealthy man in the WH, backed up by a RW theocrat. When he's not able to serve, we have this nutjob in the WH. This is a real problem. If he has dementia, to whatever degree, we need to know. And his dishonesty in this needs to be exposed. And he needs to go rest and enjoy his last healthy years, months, or days with his family.

And live with the fact that he's brought us to this. :grr:

On edit: If this turns out to be nothing, I say we throw lonestarnot a big party. I'll bring the tar if someone else will pitch in for the feathers (I'm veg*n, so I won't purchase actual feathers). I've been doing some research on scapegoating and mob violence, so I know how it's done!

39. If true, this is absolutely relevant
If it's a phoney story and the drugs are not necessarily prescribed for Alzheimer's, then it plays on our prejudices about old people and is ageism and deplorable.

But if McCain actually has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's then it goes to his ability to make decisions and function mentally. I've heard that even young people can get Alzheimr's in some cases. If McCain has any kind of medical condition affecting his brain or his ability to think clearly, then it's a legitimate issue, whether a stroke, a tumor, Alzheimer's or anything else. We then have a right to hear from his physicians, whether this is privileged information or not, and if McCain wants to keep this information privileged and secret, then he must expect to pay the consequences with the American people. If the story is true, maybe he can control it with drugs, but the American people at least have a right to raise the issue and KNOW.

69. Re the theory about Aricept and Alzheimer's:
I had serious questions about McCain's mental faculties when I watched the TWO videos from different days when he could NOT refrain from eyeballing Palin's ass and diddling with his wedding ring. This is prima facie evidence, IMHO, of a man who is unable to control socially inappropriate behavior and if I'm not mistaken, a classic early sign of Alzheimer's.

He KNEW he was on national tv and STILL could not control himself.

I would not be surprised in the least if that's what he has.

76. shrub's been showing these types of symptoms for a few years now..
they've managed to keep whatever is wrong with him under wraps. I'll be very interested to find out how and why it got out, assuming this is what is behind all of this drama.

74. Regarding AD-type drugs
It's worth noting that many of the drugs that are currently prescribed for AD have long been used as "smart drugs" or cognitive enhancers by plenty of people without AD.

So absent an actual diagnosis, someone taking such drugs is just circumstantial evidence.

Besides, would an AD diagnosis really matter to his base? I'm not sure it would.

84. How much ya wanna bet some Secret Service agent
will have to do for McCain that they did for bush, namely bag his poo? If a forensics lab were to get ahold of a sample it could be analyzed for drugs.
