The sad sight that has become John McCain.. flame away

I am going to stop for a second, and try and remember John McCain as he was. Oh he was brittle, and angry, and condescending to women.. but even with all that, there was character to him. He has some saving graces, many of us admired in 2000

What is in front of us now, is a sad old man, trying to tie onto Palins apron strings to lead him to victory. Something he probably could have handled 8 years ago. But now is is just a shadow of himself.

He has had to sell his personal convictions to the roves of the world. He is not only tied to Bush, by backing him 90% of the time...he is now tied to the Palin debacle, that is unfolding right before our eyes.

I honestly have to say this, I feel sorry for him. Oh I will fight him and his ilk 2000 % because if we don't we will lose this country.

But I look back, and see, how a maverick, once respected by most of America and the media, has become a nothing.

And it makes me a little sad.

I just have a different sense of him and who he was 8 years ago to today. Scary to even think he is as close to the white house as he is, because the man is not hitting on all 8 pistons.. (shows my age there heh)

The man has not one redeeming quality. Yes, his captors in Vietnam broke him. So did his captors of the GOP. Pathetic.

10. The more I learn about his history - the less respect I have for him

It doesn't matter that he was a POW. I respect and appreciate his service, but that doesn't mean he wasn't an asshole before or an asshole afterwards. Cheating on then dumping his wife then lying about his divorce so he could hook up with Cindy (part of the attraction had to be her money to help fuel his political ambitions), Keating 5, temper tantrums, and doing what's politically expedient to get elected. In 2000, he thought being the maverick would help him. Now, he can't embrace everything he stood against in 2000 fast enough.

McCain has just been a little bit smarter, better organized, and financed when it came to managing his reputation than others. Now this is his final hurrah, and we're seeing the true douchebag that he's always been.

11. He is painful to watch. I am waiting for a complete

disintegration on TV. I think it will happen during the debates. He has no one to blame but himself. He has outdone * in disgracing the office of president. I think he knows he doesn't have a chance of winning.

But I would not be the least be surprised to see both mccain and palin with little wires coming out of their ears. If mccain loses that temper of his, well that will be it, except for that 20 % who would vote for Satan as long as the was an R behind the name

you feel the way that you feel. But he is and always was a Republican and believes in what they stand for before anything else. He didn't change he's just doing what he thinks will win for him now. If he were a different breed of R than he would never have let Kerry be swiftboated the way he did and remain in the party. He stands for nothing, nothing at all. When people use the phrase 'all politicians lie' he is the classic example. He'll do anything to win this, it's his last try.

13. It's nice to reserve a little sympathy for a fellow human being...

...even one who has worked so hard to destroy the nation. There is probably a little bit left of his soul, that has had to sit and watch him become what he used to decry.

15. This is what kills me,

McCain is losing what status he had, and becoming a joke. Someone we have to keep from the seats of power,because he obviously is no longer a stable person.

But the roves of the world, who used him before in 2000 and attacked him and his family, who worked to destroy our military, our cia operatives,(Plame) actually gets to sit on Fox news and pontificate.

And what good McCain did do, and tried to do will forever be overshadowed by how he let himself be played.

Maybe there was always a rot at the core of his soul, that let him be led like this.

16. Well, what kills me is all the misery and death he helped cause.

The millions of dead, maimed, bereaved, homeless, paupered and struggling people that have McCain (among many, many others) to thank. They get rather more of my sympathy, though made-for-TV movies about them will never be made.

But i just can hardly abide the thought of Karl Rove, sitting like some little dictator on Fox News, and he has had his hands in this, all of this from day one. Let me add Cheney to that. There has to be a special place in hell for those people.

That is what kills me.

23. The scary thing is how many otherwise

good and sensible Democrats, including waaay too many here on DU who thought McCain was just fine four years ago and fantasized having him on the ticket. At least by now most of those clearly understand that McCain is NOT one of us, but a lot of those planning to vote for him simply don't get it that he's not pro-choice any more, will cheerfully tax the middle classes while giving tax breaks to his rich friends and on and on.
