An appeal to reason.
I was gonna title this
TIME OUT!
but decided a kinder, gentler approach might win more converts.

I've been around here for a couple of years. I don't know what my post count is and that doesn't make me any smarter than the newest newbie anyway. It does give me some perspective.

I've never seen anything like what's gone on here in the last couple of days. The defeatism, hand wringing, and general doom and gloom "we're all gonna die" crap is just mind boggling for me. This isn't supposed to be that kind of place.

And it just feeds the freepers and the rest of our opponents.

I'm one of DU's geezers. I've been voting longer than many of you have been alive. I won't feed you a bunch of crap about "it's always darkest just before the dawn", but I will say, as has been pointed out here many times, it ain't a sprint, it's a marathon.

I'm not saying that all debate should be shut off. I am saying that we are beginning to feed on our own negativity. It's become a mania.

Sit back and take a deep breath.
And think about this:
What will I wear to Kerry's inaugural?
I plan to be there, and hope to meet many of you in the flesh.
WE WILL WIN.
In the words of Justin Wilson, "I gare-on-tee."

11. I'm not watching the convention
on TV (can"t handle it), so I log in here to hear what's going on. It can't be that bad can it? Then again, I don't want anyone to sugar-coat anything either. The parts that are depressing me are the media bias and the difference between how the DNC and this have been covered. I think we have a right to call them on this, and I think we should be e-mailing them. Other than that, I haven't heard anything that makes me think * is actually scoring points with this b.s. Am I missing something?

14. Neither am I. Not the convention that's the problem.
It's MAYBE giving W* a bump in the polls. It's all the hand wringing here that's the problem.

18. The GOP controls the house, senate, white house, and supreme court.
I think that DUers are entitled to a little frustration. The Democratic strategies of the past will not work. Clinton won purely because of his political genius. Newt Gingrich delivered the congress because he was willing to throw a few verbal fire bombs. I will remain frustrated until the Democrats learn to fight and fight hard.

I agree with you that Kerry will win, but he will not win because of any great strategy on our side. Kerry will win because of Bush's monumental incompetence, and I don't like winning because of the other team's mistakes. Furthermore, it's not enough just to win the White House. We need to make gains in the Congress as well.
