Should we give the Bush twins a break?
I never thought I'd be saying this but they did as well as they probably wanted to. I'm sure they didn't write the speech or the lame jokes. A lot of the freepers thought they were lame. Me thinks they are secretly on our side but feel they have to support their doofus daddy.

act dumb, but snipe at the people around you. Laugh, snigger and if you are a Bush you can get away with it. They were disgusting...Sex in the City and "Outlaw?"

Not one personal story about their growing up and why we should care about their Dad...or anything about "family."

"Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because Janet Reno is her father."

Asshole. :grr:

They were making fun of her physical appearance, which she can't do anything about. The Bushettes are morons. I guess they can't help it either, given their parentage. But the both graduated from college - I expect better.

They did say they weren't very political, but I wonder if part of it is that they don't particularly agree with a lot of elements of the Repub platform?

My dad was a republican and if he'd run for office and asked me to speak in his behalf, I would have sounded lame, too.

9. I didn't hear what they said. However, people raked Chelsea
Clinton over the coals something aweful when they were in office.

And IF Bush wants to make FAMILY VALUES the "center piece"of his platform, then I think that pointing out his and laura's and the twin's failures as wholesome creatures IS FAIR GAME.

They claim that Kerry was making his war record the "center piece" of his campaign (which he was not) and proceeded to undermine him by using his service (with lies, albeit) record against him.

ALL IS FAIR....in times like these, as long as we tell the TRUTH.

I never said much of anything about them before now.

But they're adults, out of school, and they've joined the campaign.

And given what's been said about Chelsea Clinton and the Kerry daughters, they don't deserve even as much respect as I've given.

61. Manners
DU members are generally exceptionally courteous. If you stay around long enough, you will discover that. It's just that you hit us on a sore toe. We don't like grown men (and women) taking nasty shots at little girls (or boys), but it is a fact that the Bush twins have with apparent willingness exposed themselves to the slings and arrows of an unusually nasty political campaign. I honestly don't think they're all that fragile. At least the party pictures of them seem to show that they're pretty robust at wrestling.

29. The twins announced that they were taking part in Daddy's campaign. They
are no threat to anyone like Karen Hughes or Karl Rove, but they have entered into the political arena and must suffer the slings and arrows that come with the territory.

This is not hopscotch.

64. Women should not be attacked?
Be a person man or women, if they enter the political arena as a candidate, spokesperson for a candidate, or general supporter of a candidate they are fair game.

However, the scope of that fair game should be limited to things they say and do, not ones physical apperence as far to often the case has been with regardes to the twins, and Chelsea in the past.

If one must reduce themselves to attacking a persons physical apperence, they have lost the debate.

Edited on Tue Aug-31-04 09:55 PM by GloriaSmith
They're adults and making fun of their political ideology, behavior, or even their clothes doesn't bother me. But attacking their sexuality, something we obviously know nothing about, is ridiculous and lazy.

I just think if you're going to dislike someone, you should have a real reason, you know? Besides, it's not like people here look at that Bush nephew (Billy?) on TV and call HIM a slut. Hell, didn't Bush Sr have a girlfriend? Shouldn't HE be the Bush "slut"?

My girls are 22 and 23 and even they would not have done such a poor job of acting and bad acting it was, they are obviously just as liberal as good ole daddy was back before he found Jesus....when the blond one stuck her toungue out at reporters, it was considered cute by the media, I am sure you would know what would have happened had one of Kerry's girls done the same...

That age is no excuse for that little dig on Kerry's daughters when tempers are so strained as it is, Kerrys daughters are two very classy young women as well as is Edwards daughter.......

45. I got the impression
that they (read Karen Hughes) were going for the "we're real" effect. When Barbara and Jenna said that their hamster, ummm, didn't make it, they were saying WE ARE REAL, not fake fairy tales like the Kerry girls. They talked about being young and irresponsible, defusing the comparison, they talked about their grandmother's uncoolness. It was a balm for all those parents who don't have perfect children and who get really sick of the parents who parade their perfect offspring or put on the bumper stickers that say Proud Parent of an Honor Student,,,

yes, their jokes fell flat, and yes, I was embarrassed for them, but I think the strategy worked exactly as Karen wanted it to. Let's face it, she did the best she could with what she had to work with.

38. The Bush Twins are the only thing connected to Bush that I don't hate
I thought their open and uncomplicated, non-hypocritical love of alcohol, marijuana, and sex has been the only refreshing things about the Bush administration during the last 4 years. They're apolitical and I can't fault them for wanting to help their father, as it shows loyalty. The people who probably hate them the most are the Freepazoids, who confine their own orgies, drinking, and drug use to behind closed doors.

39. Yes, they are neither delegates nor candidates nor
officials nor legislators. They are young enough to be seen as the unelected fraud's "children" and in the absence of any policy role, or as far as I know even any job, they get a "buy" from most people on supporting a parent.

Unlike Laura, who chose to marry and stick with the amoral, viscious, spoon-fed, helpless narcissistic personality occupying the White House - and who, as "first lady" can be considered part of the administration - they didn't get to choose their parents.

The number of people who vote for puppet because they like his twins are not going to decide the election.

Attacking family who are not themselves part of the administration is counter-productive, it gets us nowhere.

And they gave a silly, goofy little speech. I can't believe the pundits are wasting so much breath on it ... it was meant as a fluffy little interlude, and that's what it was.

I say lighten up and concentrate on all the eff-ing liars that have been strutting their stuff on that stage for the past two days. LIARS! The Bush twins, yesterday's news already.

50. Many 21 year olds are dying
in Iraq. Many joined the army because they do not have rich parents who can provide them with all they want and more than what they need.

I think that it's outrageous for these girls, who's father is RESPONSIBLE (Just in case someone reads this post to GWB) for the death of many young people, to act silly and giggle, etc.... in a political setting.

Nearly 3,000 died on 9/11....1,000 died in Iraq, 6,000 mamed...and we are treated to giggling fools who just graduated from college! And they dared say they needed something to do. Go feed some hungry people....better yet, join the goddam army!

These girls should be ashamed to be related to that bumbling idiot they call "dad".
