Tweety's brilliant assessment: "God Help John Kerry"
Everyone on his panel agreed that none of the DNC speeches matched tonight's RNC speeches.

What a joke.

6. They're obvious GOP whores.
I mean, come on, even the most die hard Republican has to laugh at Arnold.

Why are they trying to make him out to be the second coming of Ronald Reagan? At least Reagan knew how to deliver his lines. Arnold was never much of an actor.

7. Cause he hates Clinton...
It's no big secret. As far as Mathews on the defense at times of what would appear to be democrats. I still stand by my original assesment that his beef is with those against Viet nam purple hearts etc regarding Kerry but touching other vets as well..

His brother is one...that issue is personal for him, he is definately not on our side...

13. Yeah, I agree.
That clinton speech at the DNC earlier this year was the best political speech I've ever seen in my life. You can't compare anything thats been done this year on the podium, from the left or right, to that speech.

Obviously, Obama's would be second, though. :)

turns out! Why can't they just be Sane and say ..arnie's speech sounds like jingoistic clap and it was bushleague compared to say Clinton's masterpiece.

Or Barack Obama's, or Al Gore's, or Ted Kennedy's or Wes Clark's, John Edwards, or John Kerry's? x(

37. I do remember that they really liked Wes's speech, but..
then they bashed him mercilessly for not doing better in the primaries. Said he was a "one trick pony" (direct quote), and didn't understand the issues. Ugh.

40. Cheerist! Wes "didn't understand the issues"?
How ridiculous? Wes, as well or better than any of our candidates, cut the issues down to their basics, and offered fresh approaches.

Why am I surprised that the mediawhores continue to denigrate him?

4. it's obnoxious
ask Tweety a month from now... Of course just after you hear a speech you remember it more than one you heard a month ago. It's pretty apparent GE is in the tank for Bush, apparently blackballing Democrats from appearing this week. Ditto TimeWarner & of course News Corp.

5. Incredible
I didn't see much of the RNC convention, I admit. But what I have seen was dry, negative, attacking Kerry, with lies and quotes out of context, and shamelessly exploiting 9/11.

But our media will spin it, as usual, as a huge success. Whether people saw any of it or not, they'll hear "Republicans were great," "Momentum for Republicans," "Republicans beat out Democrats," etc... thus *creating* a bounce.

For the DNC, they focused on a 4-day poll that ran two days prior to the conference's beginning and 2 days into it, as I recall, and rushed to declare failure: "Where is the bounce? No bounce! We were expecting a bounce! No bounce!"

Sickening.

Edited on Tue Aug-31-04 11:10 PM by doc03
picks Rudy, one picks Pickles, one picks AAArnold and one picks McCain. I guess they were the four best speeches in history and I missed them all. During the Democratic convention they had all Repuglican pundits, now with the Repuglican convention they have all Repuglican pundits. Where the hell are the Democrats? The only one I have seen so far is Ronnie Jr..

Same for PBS' News Hour program. All Rethuglican panelists, followed by "independent" Presidential historians.

It would be unbelievable -- if it weren't so effing typical.

Just ridiculous.

Gee, they must have been watching their own networks coverage. For those that watched on C-Span, and were able to actually LISTEN to both, there was no comparison.

DNC: excellent speeches, good speakers, sincere
RNC: fortune cookie bullshit to cover a right wing agenda

Blunt talk works.
Red meat works.
Negative works.
The Big Lie works.

Average Joe undecided does not pay enough attention to decipher
nuance. It works for Joe when you slam the other guy and
make the differences simple and crystal clear.

Repub, sadly are doing a great job. I HATE IT!

44. Bingo and that's why we're going to lose
And lose big if things don't change very rapidly inside the Kerry campaign. Kerry is a good canidate who isn't being done justice by his handlers.

The two-week implosion has been nothing short of breathtaking, in a very bad, disconcerting way.

The empty internet I don't know you, you don't know me, bet. No thanks.

How can you deny this has been a bad two weeks. I can't see how anyone can, in their right mind, say this has just been rosy and that there's been no shift in momentum whatsoever.

But I will say, given my betting history, I should take you up on it. We might just win.

38. I can think of several memorable speeches at the DNC
Wes Clark's moving speech with the moment of silence. Teddy Kennedy gave a terrific speech. Clinton's, Obama's, and Kerry's were great. I didn't anything memorable tonight. The RNC speeches like the GropenFuhrer's speech are like Chinese food...one day later we will still be hungry for some substance, ANY substance to come out of the mouths of Republicans. And I'm confident that we won't hear it. This convention is all fluff, cute stunts (like the Twins and the Saturday Night Live take-off), and a blatant exploitation of 911. We won't remember anything that takes place in this convention and I don't think it will have any lasting effect. After it's over, we'll still be one bad day in Iraq or one terrible set of government statistics from another Bush circling of the drain.
