A first time political volunteer this evening...:-)

I finally was able to actually do some volunteering for a local businessman running for congress this year. Mike Huckleberry is running against Dave Camp in the 4th district of Michigan. Camp is a 14yr incumbent with nearly a million dollars to spend on his campaign. Yet, Mike is very optimistic with his campaign and we took it to Camps hometown of Midland Michigan tonight. We actually handed out fliers in Camps backyard, going door to door with literature showing Mike's stance on the issues.

My favorite experience tonight was knocking on a door and having the lady of the house answer. I mentioned I was with Mike Huckleberry for congress and handed her a flier. She asked if he was running against Dave Camp? I of course said he was... she said good... grabbed a flier and stated she was a Democrat. I said "Excellent"... would you like a yard sign? Her response was "No, I went to school with Dave Camp and he lives right around the corner about four houses down." I smiled and said I understood... and wished her a great day. I wasn't the one that got to knock on Camps door...but the person that did said his babysitter answered the door anyway... since he is in NYC.

It was all in all a great night and a very interesting ride over and back on the bus with Mike and his campaign team. The hour and a half drive there and back seemed to fly as we discussed the issues.

I am really looking forward to knocking on more doors as I continue to help with Mike's campaign and of course the Kerry campaign.

Everyone knows someone that doesn't vote... we MUST connect with them.... we MUST get those people to register and make sure they get to the polls in November...
