1. Should be a "Couldn't Vote" Option.
I was only 14, but followed the campaign like a laser beam, and definitely would have voted for Gore.

7. Good for you!
I wonder, if I may ask, what got you interested in politics at such an early age?

Even after a paltry 4 votes, that was a huge underdog

30. I Did Too
It will go down as the worst vote I will ever cast in a presidential election. I saw it as a protest vote. Never again.

32. voted Buchanan 2000, 1996, Perot 1992
THen I actually read up on the rationale of leftism and figured out it was in my best interests to vote for leftist. I only wish the democrats had a leftist.

My main reason I liked Buchanan was that he said he would stop illegal immigration and slow down legal immigration. But now I see that Latin Americans, especially the ones coming up here now, are not unfriendly at all to leftism. I now think that massive latino immigration could be a very good thing for America, mainly because it will break up the white protestant voting bloc, which is the one that seems to be so susceptible to the calvinist, darwinian, libertarian propaganda memes put out by the rightwing Big Money PR firms and think tanks.

The Big Money is cutting its own throat via their greed for cheap labor: they are importing leftist memes from latin america.

6. Nader, sorry
I know better this time.. Took a political science class in college and it seems pretty obvious when you look at all the facets of a Nader vote.

8. I know you ask for 2000 vote but
here is how I have voted for Prez. these past 20 yrs.
80-Reagan (reason I voted for him I was young and Dumb)
84-Mondale (I got scared that Bush Sr. could take over if Reagan got shot again)
88-Dukakis (I have always hated the Bush Family. I'm from Texas. And Hell would have to freeze over for me to vote for a bush.)
92-Clinton (same as above)
96-Clinton (I really liked Clinton. What a great guy.)
2000-Gore (I wanted things to stay the same.)
and 2004 will be Kerry. (Hope he can put the Nation back on track.)

12. Here is my history - baring all.
1972-McGovern (fortunately when I was young and dumb I couldn't vote)
1976-Carter
1980-Carter
1984-Mondale
1988-Dukakis
1992-Clinton
1996-Clinton
2000-Gore

So I voted for the winner four out of eight. If I were a baseball hitter, I would be in the hall of fame.

14. Never
I voted for Nader in a safe (safe for *) state. Definitely would have voted for Al in a swing state. I am still in that safe state,
Kentucky, and it is demoralizing to know that my vote will be most likely be overwhelmed by the repuke stupidity that is commonplace here. Never the less I will proudly cast my vote for Kerry, knowing that it will count in his national totals and send some positive energy to the political process of this great country.

I know many people, who voted Nader in 2000 and every one of them will be voting for Kerry. i believe this to be true around the country, especially in states where it will make the difference.

16. I am a little ashamed
that I voted for Nader in 2000. Yeah, I justified it by thinking Montana was a 'safe' state for Bush, and I wanted the Greens to get 5% nationally so they would get Federal funds this year. But, it didn't 'feel' right, it was the only time I felt like I was casting a 'dishonest' vote by not voting for the candidate I thought would be the best President. I won't ever make that mistake again. Never again will I allow myself to be swayed by the argument that 'my vote doesn't matter' and throw it away like that. And four years later, I totally reject the red state/blue state paradigm - I've become a believer in old-fashioned democracy -- where you never say you know the outcome until the votes have been cast and counted.

20. Don't be too hard on yourself.
IMHO it was and still is reasonable to vote third party if there is absolutely no way your state is in play. Me, I voted Nader is 1996, but in 2000 gladly voted for Gore as I had been a big fan of his ever since reading Earth in Balance in 1992. Plus by that time it was becoming clear that Minnesota was no longer a safe democratic state.

21. Hey I agree that it is reasonable to vote third-party IF
and only if, the third-party candidate is actually the one you want to win the election. I thought in 2000 as I do now that Nader would be a disaster as President, that's why my vote was so wrong.

11. Gore
For me, it wasn't a hard choice at all. I like many of Nader's ideas, but I don't like him personally. Also, I even knew back then how bad Bush was and I didn't get turned off by the debates. I have a relative who changed to Nader after the debates. BTW, he's voting Kerry this time, fortunately.

17. I voted for the Libertarian

Then after reading Al Gore’s forward in Silent Spring realized what a horrendous mistake it was.

Of course, my one lonesome vote in Virginia meant nothing, but it’s the principle of the matter.

23. I was a Nader trader in NE. Traded for Gore votes in Florida
I had the same ethics concerns as many did and still do, but if there were a couple hundred more of us back then think what we might have been spared.

I don't think it's the best way to engage in an election, but under the shitty electoral college system I saw it as the best way to express my Gore vote from a blood red state. I hope if Nader is successful in getting on the ballot in real swing states this option is available again.

26. I was not yet an American citizen in 2000, but I supported Gore...
I decided to become an American (after being eligible for 15 years) after Bush stole the election. I am very excited to vote for Kerry here in the swing state of PA!

I am from Canada, by the way.

27. My rather long voting record.
1966 - my first vote. Voted for Jesse Unruh against Ronald Reagan for governor.

1968 - Dr. Spock against Nixon and Humphrey and the War in Vietnam.
1972 - George McGovern and felt good about it.
1976 - Jimmy Carter
1980 - Jimmy Carter
1984 - Mondale
1988 - Dukakis
1992 - Clinton with a nose plug
1996 - Clinton with a larger nose plug
2000 - Gore with reservations
2004 - Kerry - with an Extra Strengh nose clamp and not much confidence that he can play it "safe" and have a chance of winning.

This time, I'm repelled by Nader and attracted to Kerry, and also VERY repelled by Bush.
