MEDIA COVERAGE OF THE CONVENTIONS......
I watched the Democratic Convention and have watched bits and pieces of the Republican Convention, especially the post speech analysis. What is so obvious to me is the bias against the dems in this regard.

After every prime time Dem speech there was always a high profile repub was put on by the major cable networks to counter what the dem just had to say....whether it was the Republican National Chairman or some other right wing nutball. Plus, during interviews at the Democratic Convention the media was always on the attack, but at the repub convention the tone is very different, all smiles and love, and never challenging the lies of the speakers.

Does anyone else sense this?

1. I agree
Not as much attacking after speeches as there was at the DNC and total softball questions to Republican guests.

3. They didn't interview anyone. They sat down and had a chat.
Bush will come and go. The media is forever. They are the real enemy.

5. I specifically remember....
after Edwards and Kerry speech the media put on the Republican National Chairman on to counter them....lets see if McCauliffe is afforded that same opportunity.

6. It's Too Obvious
I'm almost to the point of thinking CNNservative is goading both us & the Democratic party on the way it's biased toward the Repugnicans. Every time we've spoken out or the network has been caught in another blatant lie or Rove talking point, seems they dish out even more.

I haven't watched much of CNNserative since the DNC...joining the many others here on MSNBC...which is far more fair in its coverage. I even am developing a soft spot for Joey Scareborough...as long as he has a Ron Reagan or Joe Trippi nearby to beat him back to some sense.

Faux need not be discussed...it's been totally bypassed except to catch the latest spin point and then move along...

ABC News Now has been interesting as they have done a lot of coverage from the podium (ala C-SPAN & PBS) with Jennings doing occasional interviews and pontifications. Overall, they have former CNN'er Jonathan Karl and Mario Cuomo's son who do some great analysis.

A lot of this has to do with ratings and regulations. The greatest fear at all these networks is 1996...a boring race that draws little to no interest. With advertising revenues at record lows, the large piles of cash...a lot of it from the RNC and its affiliated 527s...is getting a lot of airtime on friendly stations that want this regime to stay in power so they can push through even further media deregulation and consolidation. That, I think is what you sense...

10. The only way to stop this
Is for a group with credentials to come out with the facts of the bias, point this crap out to the American people.

There needs to be a major stink made about it. IF THIS is a real problem (and I think it is) then real efforts must be made to expose these propagandists. Simply linking from Liberal websites will not cut it.

We need to get this information mainstream.

11. if the party doesn't stand up for itself
don't expect the media to. It shouldn't be hard for someone in the party to demand counter spin time after the speakers. I'm sure the media, which loves conflict, didn't reject offers from Democrats to come on.

They better be on tv tonight, or this party machine is seriously broken.

12. Maybe they're doing us a favor
Because McAuliffe is a wimp on TV.

Should have brought in Bob Kerrey or Max Cleland.
