"Democrats See Cheney As Vulnerable Target"

NEW YORK (AP) - Democrats view Vice President Dick Cheney as one of the most vulnerable targets in their campaign to reclaim the White House.

The Democrats' rapid-response team planned to target Cheney on Wednesday during their briefing at the war room near the GOP convention. They point to deals the U.S. government has made with Halliburton, the company that was headed by Cheney before he became George W. Bush's running mate.

"When Dick Cheney takes the stage at the convention, we will be reminding Americans about Dick Cheney's record, not only his abysmal failure as vice president but the sweetheart deals that his administration has cut with the company that he used to lead," said Matt Bennett, a spokesman for the Democrats. Halliburton has a multibillion-dollar contract for work done in Iraq, including providing food and other services to troops.

Cheney was to speak Wednesday night at the convention along with keynote speaker Zell Miller, a Democratic senator from Georgia. While Democrats are peeved at Miller for his speaking role, they plan to focus most of their criticism on Cheney.

1. Idiots! People don't cast votes for Cheney. They cast them for Bush.
Cheney is just another distraction. Don't they see that?

Tomorrow it will be George's turn.

3. The distractions are what's killing us, though.
Forget about "Wednesday's focus". Every days's "focus" should be explaining how a Kerry administration would do things better.

4. I Don't Think It's a Bad Idea
To point out this ADMINISTRATION'S shady dealings and specifically Cheney's ties to Halliburton, the company that's raping us in Iraq. That shit plays in middle America, distraction or not.

Besides that, a lot of people think that Cheney's the one running the show in the first place. So it's not a bad idea to show them what he's really like. I know a lot of people who voted for Bush in 2000 even though they knew he was incompetent, because he kept saying he'd surround himself with competent people and everyone figured that if George got into a jam, Dick would get him out.

We can't just focus on Bush. The stupidity, incompetence, evil, war-mongering, money-grubbing, war-profiteering, etc. doesn't lie solely in the Oval Office.

5. I hear what you're saying, but I disagree.
I don't think most people give a damn what Cheney does. Most of them DON'T think Cheney's running the show, that's a veiw held almost exclusively by active (and by that I mean voting) Democrats.

This election won't be won by preaching to the choir. We need to get that 50% who don't vote motivated. The way to do that is showing them how Kerry will improve their lives, not attacking a VP's alleged improprieties.

6. I Completely Disagree
With the idea that the only people thinking Cheney's running the show are active, voting Democrats. Active, voting Democrats think that Rove and PNAC are running the show.

I know lots of people who aren't that interested in politics at all that think that Cheney is the head cheese because they see Bush talking and cannot imagine that he's really at the helm. Some of them are Republicans who say, "Bush doesn't have to be smart. He's got smart people around him. If he doesn't know what to do, Cheney can help him."

9. We must be talking to different people. Most of the people I talk to
(who aren't Dems) think that:

Bush is doing a good job fighting terrorism.

Bush is honorable.

Bush has a stronger sense of conviction than Kerry.

I've never heard any of the undecideds (or Republicans) mention Cheney as a reason for their decision. Ever. It's all been about Bush.

10. I'm Not Saying That Cheney is the Reason They're Voting For Bush
But I'm saying that if you go after Cheney with things that STICK (such as his connection to the most corrupt corporation in Iraq), that hurts the Bush/Cheney ticket.

If people think that Cheney is running the show in some way (an impression that was reinforced for many regular Joes during the 9/11 commission appearance in which Cheney had to hold Junior's hand), then showing what a corrupt evil bastard he is WILL hurt Bush.

11. Again, I understand, I just don't feel it's an effective strategy.
Peace.
