Poll question: Should DU Have A "Chicken Little Forum" For The Doom & Gloomers
Edited on Wed Sep-01-04 10:51 AM by cryingshame
who can't understand why Kerry's numbers aren't going up during the week of the RNC?

Moderators, this is my attempt to invest a bit of levity into this forum and also to encourage a bit of discussion on the need to take a chill and/or get busy campaigning for Kerry. This isn't a real attempt to get Skinner to start a new form on DU. :)
............................................................................................................................................................................

A fellow DU'er (bushbash ) made the following comment which I couldn't resist featuring in its own thread with attendant poll:

"Think we could set up a 'Chicken Little' forum so the doomed can have a place to play without disrupting those of us optimists who have work to do?"

1. As I posted yesterday...
I think that a good amount of this can be traced to an infestation of smooth, smooth trolls.

We do seem to get a better class of them here. I mean, they spell the word "The" correctly, as opposed to "teh". That most certainly counts for something. ;-)

8. Notice how they always post their attacks as a question.
Edited on Wed Sep-01-04 11:07 AM by Old and In the Way
Very polite of them. That inclination to spew garbage has been replaced with hand wringing concern.

<edit: I asked a question in my post> ;-)

9. I suspect you're right....
but then the Republicans need a nasty negative campaign that makes voters cynical about both parties.

21. There's that common thread
So I tend to agree with you. The danger here is how do we find help when we ourselves need some help.

But my solution has been to hide the threads. And there have been many. I'm not easily led by veiled attempts but find them so numerous and pesky that I hide them almost immediately based on the subject header.

3. Now you sound like bush and his "free speech zones"
Maybe the real problem is with the intolerance of others views by people like yourself.

We are a party of diverse opinions and beliefs. Why do you want to homogenize that?

34. You're right. I have been listening to the Republicans censor
any type of speech that does not fit into their scrupulous hail * we are #1 in religious morality rhetoric for the past 3.5 years.

Now DU'ers want to "Dixie Chick" anyone who says "excuse me Mr. Kerry, but you are not wearing any clothes and you have a huge wardrobe at your disposal."

I have invested considerable money, time, and effort into the campaign for John Kerry, and I have heard the arguments at bush speech demonstrations, at the phone bank, and going door to door canvassing.

There appears to be no organized Kerry response to any of the issues or slams that I hear every day, and there just are not that many of them. Furthermore, the only mail I get is a request for more money, with no information on how to handle the latest smear campaign televised by the bushies.

I live in a battleground state, and I want some leadership from the Kerry campaign. Give me solid information to counter these smears, and I will put it to good use.

May I ask the "sky is blue" folks if they are as immersed as I and are getting solid reasons from the public to "not worry?"

I am leaving for NYC tomorrow am to protest the shrub so I will probably miss any responses to my rant.

Shall we homogenize around white males and exclude all others? Of course, you will have to use the correct vocabulary to be included.

6. i know what you mean
there is nothing wrong with suggestions on how we could do better. but most of the posts are reactionary types from those who seem to be the least informed. many times they demand to know why there has been no response to something when there has.

10. Excellent idea.
The DU should have a "Chicken Little" forum where the mods can move these "what's wrong with Kerry?" attacks to. I doubt that few would actually start a thread there, but that's where most of these ought to be located.

I'm starting to notice it is almost always the same handful of posters who love to bitch and moan about Kerry campaign. Interestingly, a few of these have long DU histories of never liking Kerry in the first place. (they liked other candidates in the primaries)

After a bloody flogging, for making posts that "upset" some people so much.

Jeezus, if you are this thinskinned and easily thrown off course, you should take up some other interest than politics. Or start your own forum, with your own rules that do not allow criticism or dissent. I believe that we still have the freedom to post such criticism on DU, without being sent to the "free speech pen".

26. Yes, I did
But even if you are joking there are those who agree with the sentiment here who have been going into even the most mildly critical thread to post insults at those who make a frowny face in the direction of the Kerry campaign. I'm tired of it. Sky is Falling threads can be annoying, but so are We Will Win in a Landslide threads.

I'm getting burnt out myself and think I need a break from DU, anyways, lol. I'm losing my sense of humor, and that's deadly.

49. What do you mean, "ghetto?"
This forum would have the finest minds at DU -- in other words, the most experienced and knowledgeable campaigning geniuses the world has ever seen. There, they could wax poetic about such topics as why running hard left is the key to winning elections in the U.S., how Kerry sucks compared to the dazzling, aggressive, successful campaigning of Howard Dean, how George Bush is stupid, yet every move he makes should immediately be adopted by Kerry, and finally, on the absolutely spineless nature of the Democratic Party, and how much better it would be doing in the polls if it adopted unpopular positions, but stuck to them anyway.

Ghetto? That sounds like utopia to me.
