1. CLASSIC New York picture
I love it.

Even though I would have been able to see the towers spewing smoke on September 11 (I take the #7 train and it is elevated for most of the ride), I was busy reading "Me Talk Pretty One Day." I didn't find out what happened until I got to work. It never even occurred to me to look up, despite the commotion around me.

9. They were arrested. Why? The Bu$h era American Police State.
We can't let them get away with this.

They'll be coming for us next.

18. Yup, New Yorkers are a funny lot :)
A friend of mine and I (he lived in Manhattan, I was visiting) were riding the subway once, he'd been telling me how oblivious New Yorkers were. . . as in they ignore anything that doesn't directly effect them. I asked him what he meant and he proceeded to start jumping up and down screaming obscenities at the top of his lungs.

NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON ON THE TRAIN EVEN LOOKED HIS DIRECTION. It was actually pretty damned funny.

10. That woman seems pretty symbolic of the American public, by and large.
She's confronted with the reality of what's being done in her name and can't be bothered to look.

Just my .02

11. C'mon, US Magazine, with hot gossip, ranks over politics
with 90% of Americans, especially on their way to work.

Thank goodness, I'm not in that 90% (wasn't part of the 92% in 10/01 either).

12. All I'm saying is...
that picture looks like a metaphor for what's going on right now.

If I were on the train I would probably be minding my own business, too. But that doesn't change the way I initially perceived the picture.

13. I agree with you...I was being kind of sarcastic...
kind of...as an ex-New Yorker, I sympathize with the woman. Although your thought was my first thought as well. Perfect symbol of half of Americans with their heads up their asses.

:)

Really is a GREAT photo.

I think all the unintentional irony from the RNC has seriously messed it up.

19. Uh--okay--they paid their fares and they obviously weren't bothering anyon
so why were they busted? I mean, last time I was on a NYC subway, there was guy there jacking off in the back of the car but I didn't see anyone leading him away in handcuffs. This seemed like a peaceful protest to me (the die-in, not the guy jacking off). Welcome to Amerika!
