since they're campaigning for their father, obviously yes.

29. Agreed....
Unfortunately, "fair game" seems to mean that childish and superficial attacks on their looks and clothes(both sides).

5. Daddy brought them to the show!
These have been the most well hidden brats ever to cross the threashold at 1600 as children of the president.
They were kept out of the press until Kerry and Edwards included their family and suddenly it was a "We have family values too" show when the twins re-appeared, similar to the awol bush in tha ANG.
It should be shown everything stupid they do, just one more testimonial to the conservative values the GOP preaches.

22. While what they say is fair game
I suggest that their physical apperance is not fair game or appropriate. And not just theirs, but everyones.

And since you took the "weight" angle in your criticism of Jenna, do you think it to be fair for a republican to go after Elizabeth Edwards size?

then so are the Bush twins. I'm sick of Cheney-ing double standards!

11. Let's focus on the real issues of the day. . .
and not get side tracked into useless discussions about young women who don't appear to be too bright. Criticizing them may be cathartic, but I can't shake the feeling Karl Rove trotted them out precisely for this reason: to divert attention from the real issues that can and will get our candidate elected.

Eye on the prize and all that.

12. They open themselves to criticism of the issues they introduced into...
...evidence by speaking at the convention.

So, you can criticize them for:

1) Anything they talked about in the speach,

2) Their presentation and style, and

3) things that relate to credibility and character.

Even Rupert Murdoch's NY Post bashed the Tequila Twins this morning...

And as horrible as it must have been in person, it reads appallingly on the page....

The right wingers did with Chelsea. The kids are just helping mama and daddy. They are not running for anything.

25. yes
Yes, the minute they stepped on that stage they were fair game. I didn't see them last night because I can't bear to watch the convention, but in my book, the children are a product of the parents' values and morals, and are therefore fair game. Why is it that Democratic children usually seem to be sober, educated and concerned with the public good (the Kerry girls, Amy Carter, the Kennedy kids) and Republican kids tend (Ron Reagan excepted!) to be spoiled brats??
the Bush girls are "useless as a rich man's child" in the words of Bob Dylan...

It would explain a lot. GW fathers Jenna, and the smarter air-conditioner repairman fathers the other one.

27. Not open season, but fair game
If fair game means the kind of infantile vituperation that was rained on choice of clothing and other inconsequentials then, no, they're not fair game. If fair game means questioning their statements, looking at the congruence between their statements and their actions, etc., then sure.

If I object to behavior when it's aimed at folks I like I object equally when it's aimed at people with whom I disagree.

32. I have always contended
that if you "attack" or criticize someone and you have to resort to talking about their physical apperance, then you have lost the debate.

If one has to resort to such a low level of debate then their gun is full of blanks.
