What I find fascinating about this picture is the contrast between the genuine raw emotion on the faces and in the stances of the AIDS protestors and the total corny phoniness of the "handpainted" signs among the Republicanitos, the signs their elders had mass-produced for them for this photo op, to suggest the "genuine, raw emotion" of youth for Bush. Just incredible.

Maybe they should take to wearing big styrofoam hats with the legend "Bush protestor." You think the security folks would get it then? Or would they assume that they were protestors FOR Bush?

This just points up the futility of securing anything or anyone against a committed enemy, particularly one who doesn't mind dying in his or her attempt. We would be far better served conducting ourselves and our foreign policy in such a way that we strip away the support for the extemists, and marginalize them to such an extent that they're exposed for the murderous thugs they are. Instead, we keep generating all kinds of reasons, alibis and excuses for terrorists to keep terrorizing, and for powerless, pissed-on folks to support them.
