Be of good cheer, DU! The Republican Convention is going in the toilet!
Edited on Wed Sep-01-04 05:28 PM by xray s
After a good nights sleep and a day of hard physical work, I have thought through the first two days of the RNC and believe we are seeing the Republicans implode.

Take a look at what we have witnessed so far...

A weak appeal for bi-partisanship by John McCain. By the look on his face and tone of his voice during his media interviews following his speech, he looked like a whipped pup, knowing he failed.

The mother of all bloody shirt speechs by Rudy Gulliani. Blood was splattering all over the place. And the next day, when he appeared on "The View" he was booed by the audience after repeating over and over "you are either with us, or you are with the terrorists". Yep. A whole bucketful of hope from that guy.

And last night was mock night. Purple band aids mocking those that were wounded in war. Ah-nold mocking anyone who is worried about losing their job, their health care, their pensions as "girlie-men". And the Bush twins, soon to displace Nicky and Paris Hilton as the biggest spoiled brats in America, mocking the Kerry daughters hamster, mocking John Kerry...hell, they mocked everybody.

And tonight is the night of the long knives, when Zell Miller and Dick Cheney try to disembowel John Kerry on prime time.

Not a damn sliver of hope in this damn bunch. Just vile bile.

People are going to eventually do a "compare and contrast" calculation in their heads. DNC vs RNC. Hope vs attack. Barack Obama vs Zell Miller.

And when they do, Karl Rove is going to realize he needs to find another line of work in a few months.

Keep the faith, kids!

peace

34. the ironic i find with the hamster story i am telling the right
bushie girl's hamster died, daddy obviously didnt save it, sucked up in vaccuum whatever, but there wasnt value of life there, as there isnt a value with life of people

kerry jump in sea to save hamster, and saves lives, in vietnam, the republican in nevada.........he values the hamsters life and peoples lives

i jsut think this is telling in the scheme of thing with a littel story a a quip from the girls

5. Oh, I am
on NPR All Things Considered, they interviewed moderate Republicans, and they basically said they lost to the radical wing of the party in regards to the platform. Their pitiful hopes that maybe someday one of them would be the nominee of the party because their ideas are closer to a majority of Americans would make anyone who was listening decide that the GOP had taken a sharp turn to the extreme right.

20. Interesting point.
I wonder how many of these Republican moderates will vote for Kerry to save their Party? I'm sure they'll go through the motions of supporting Bush, but I wonder how many will vote for short term sanity and longterm viability of the Republican Party.

39. Did you hear about Tommy Thompson?
Here's the Republican Health and Human Services Secretary on Capon Boy:

"HEMMER: How do you feel about Rudolph Giuliani, Arnold Schwarzenegger, who do not share that same view? Featured speakers here at the convention.
THOMPSON: I think they are outstanding. I think, you know, the crowd responded extremely well to both of them.
In fact, I think Arnold Schwarzenegger, Governor Schwarzenegger's speech last night was one of the finest speeches I've ever heard at the convention. And I've been going to conventions now for 28 years, national conventions.
So I would have to say that his speech was outstanding. He gave a portrayal, a -- he painted a picture of why people should be a Democrat better and more ably than any person I've ever heard before.
HEMMER: That is very high praise..."

The best part so far has been OUR march. Rudy and Arnold's speeches both sucked. Of course all the reich wingers think they were the greatest speeches in the history of mankind, but they're all idiots.

19. I totally agree
of course, this is based upon having actually WATCHED the fabulous Dem show, and not having watched a single moment of the repuke spectacle. My only downer comment (with apologies) is that both conventions had one thing in common - nothing but right wing media commentary after the speeches, of which more of the puke stuff gets air time. :(

28. I agree. I'm seeing barely concealed desperation
Think of the song from Gypsy: "Everything's coming up roses:"

There's the Ethel Merman version, sung without irony.

You'll be swell! You'll be great!
Gonna have the whole world on the plate!
Starting here, starting now,
honey, everything's coming up roses!

Clear the decks! Clear the tracks!
You've got nothing to do but relax.
Blow a kiss. Take a bow.
Honey, everything's coming up roses!

Then there's the Bette Midler version, in which she nearly shouts the lyrics in desperation:

I can tell, wait and see.
There's the bell! Follow me!
And nothing's gonna stop us 'til we're through!
Honey, everything's coming up roses and daffodils!
Everything's coming up sunshine and Santa Claus!
Everything's gonna be bright lights and lollipops!
Everything's coming up roses for me and for you!

The repubes are singing the Bette Midler version:
Everything's coming up flip flops and Swift Boat Vets!
Everything's coming up terror and Patriot acts!
Everything's coming up religious fundamentalists!

They're desperate. They are gritting their teeth and repeating their happy, happy talking points.

of the "girlie-men" thing. They said he (Auhnuld) was going to switch all the unemployed to "girlie-men" to decrease unemployed and increase the ranks of "girlie-men". I thought it was joke. I didn't know he actually said something like that!

The comedians were funny on CNN earlier. They said watching "Auhnuld" took away the need for drugs. Why would anyone need drugs when they could hallucinate right at the RNC. Very funny.

even left out some stuff!

You had Libby Dole on there yesterday spewing on about putting the Ten Commandents in courtrooms and Jesus in public classrooms!

A very moderate friend of mine called me and said of her speech: "That makes me SICK. I NEVER hear Dems talking like that. Mind. Made. Up."

Just like that. She votes based on the person, not the party, normally but Libby Dole's speech just put her over the top.
