Jewish Group Irked By Cross On Republican Podium
Edited on Wed Sep-01-04 06:33 PM by cryingshame
Yup, this Convention is down the toilet.

Jewish Groups Irked by Cross on Republican Podium

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Speakers at this week's Republican convention make their remarks at a wooden
podium that some Jewish groups find offensive because its decorative panels appear to form the shape of a
Christian cross.

A cross is even more visible in a waist-high gavel stand adjacent to the podium, leading some to question
whether the party is trying to send a subtle message to its base among conservative Christians.

"It is the very height of insensitivity for the Republican Party to feature a cross at the center of the podium
of this convention," Ira Forman, executive director of the National Jewish Democratic Council, said in a
statement.

"This wooden cross must be at least three feet (one meter) tall, and it sends a signal of exclusivity loudly
and clearly."

1. We should have had a contest to see how many symbols and comments
the repub make during the convention that are in extrememly bad taste and ticks off a segment of society.

So there go the Jewish and Muslim vote (what was left). The purple heart bandaids upset veterans and their friends and family. I'm insulted with the "girlie men" whatever comment by Arnie. I am sooo tired of the ultimate way to insult men is to call them women.

Were there others I've missed? I don't have the stomach to actually watch the show myself.

9. Did you know the USA is a Christian nation? (sarcasm)
It must be true, or lightweight repuke Congressional candidate Clinton Lesuer wouldn't have said it:

http://slate.msn.com/id/2105911/

But the Big Apple love-in doesn't last all that long. No one denounces the city, of course, but the disconnect between the majority of New Yorkers and the majority of Republicans comes across during the succession of speeches by GOP congressional candidates. In the most Jewish city in America, Mississippi congressional candidate Clinton LeSueur strays from President Bush's carefully inclusive religious rhetoric. Instead of making the nonsectarian statement in his prepared text—"The very foundation of this country is faith"—LeSueur says, "The very foundation of this country is Christianity and faith in Jesus Christ."

Oh, go tell it to the Founding Fathers, moran. Oh, right, they were mostly deists!

To everyone's relief, Rowdyboy (who lives in the MS district in question) assures me this punk-ass chump hasn't a snowball's chance in the Mississippi Delta against the entrenched, Dem, African American incumbent. (big sigh of relief)

4. Well, what the fuck did they expect? Egalitarianism? Inclusiveness?

They won't find any of that open-minded "liberal" attitude in today's GOP, that's for sure.

5. The only "Jews" the BCE cares about are Zionist Neocon Likudniks
So it's not surprising that they care little about offending the rest of them.

6. That's okay, don't they realize that the goal of the neo-con....
...fundies controlling the republican party is to convert all people in the world to Christianity? Like Ed Koch, if you cross over and don't accept the cross, that will be hard on you. What Mrs. Koch would do to Ed for voting republican for the first in his life, is nothing compared to what these fundies will do to him now that he has made the transition and declared publicly he will vote for George W Bush. Listen, the people of the Jewish faith will just have to start getting used to the idea that they will become born again or else! Time is running out, 2012 will be here before they know it.
