Our three choices on the economy
We, as a nation, are in a financial mess. There is no doubt about that. We have three choices, as I see it:

1) Keep taxes the same and or raise them a little and slash spending drastically. This would mean deep cuts in the military spending, along with Social Security and Medicare. That ain't gonna happen. So, forget about that one.

2) Raise taxes on the wealthiest in order to provide tax cuts for the middle class, along with national health care. The middle class always spends everything it gets and then some. So, that could stimulate the economy and help us (maybe) grow our way out of this mess in 10-20 years. National health also would help by reducing the overall cost of health care and taking the direct cost of health insurance off the books of employers. This is basically the Obama plan. It's risky and might not work. But it's worth a try.

3) Embrace inflation. Double down on the Bush tax cuts while boosting federal spending, but also allow the U.S. dollar to turn into tissue paper. That would shrink the "real" size of the federal debt and make a lot of the problem go away. Of course, we'd also experience a massive depression. Call it "collateral damage." That is, I suspect, what John McCain is planning.

I am voting for option #2. You?
