COLUMBUS, Ohio - President Bush (news - web sites) drew the endorsement of a New York City firefighters union Wednesday, a reminder to voters of the Sept. 11 attacks that he has made a centerpiece of his re-election campaign.

1. nt
The endorsement was meant as an answer to Democratic challenger John Kerry (news - web sites), who has the support of nearly all of organized labor. The largest firefighters union, the International Association of Fire Fighters, endorsed Kerry a year ago during the Democratic presidential primaries, and its representatives often attend his events.

11. "a" firefighters union? I wondered about that
here's the scoop.....

snip>The union representing New York's City's 8-thousand-600 firefighters will endorse President Bush tonight at a social club in Elmhurst, Queens Uniformed Firefighters Association president Steve Cassidy said he'll announce the union's endorsement as he stands beside Bush at the Italian Charities of America hall. Cassidy and Bush will share a meal of pizza and sodas with about 100 firefighters snip

The International Association of Fire Fighters has endorsed Democratic Senator John Kerry, along with the union representing the city's 2-thousand-900 fire lieutenants, captains and other officers.
