"Virginia now true battleground"
Edited on Wed Sep-01-04 07:55 PM by spooky3
I received my county newsletter and this article was in it. No author's name appeared on it but it is copyrighted. The website hasn't been updated with this yet, but it's www.arlingtondemocrats.org. The article says what many of us VA DUers have been saying for some time, plus offers some new info.

"VA is now a battleground state, there for the taking by whichever presidential campaign does the better job in the coming two months. As a sign of the opportunities the national campaign sees in VA, John Kerry has now sent 17 paid campaign staffers to manage the effort here.

(snip)

According to the polls, VA is now rated closer than many of the states widely touted as 'battlegrounds' for months. The latest Rasmussen poll shows only 3 percentage points separating the candidates in VA...

JK continues to visit VA--he's been in the commonwealth 4 times in the last 8 weeks--and to advertise in teh VA media. Kerry started another visit to VA August 23--the start of a 7-day Norfolk-to-New York bus tour.

VA has not voted Democratic in a presidential election since LBJ in 1964. But many analysts see a likely demographic (and Democratic) shift taking place with the state's growth concentrated in Northern VA."

1. Things seem to be looking up for the Old Dominion.
Ed Schrock dropping out should help. With no other statewide races, that might keep some Pat Robertson wingnuts home.

2. So it's really a demographic phenomenon
more than an ideological one. No matter, it still is AWESOME!!!!

3. I know some Northerners retire
to VA. They want to go where its warmer but not as far South as Fla.

5. Pat Robertson
would have a heart attack if Kerry won the state.

God, it would be so cool to win VA.
