Local SC, but with national implications: Race.
Director Wants To Maintain "Proper Decorum" At Polling Places

GREENVILLE -- Greenville County voters will return to the polls for a runoff between District 18 county council candidates Steve Selby and Tony Trout on Sept. 7.

It's a race civil-rights groups wanted to watch closely, but elections officials say there are some limits on how close they can get.

The American Civil Liberties Union and the NAACP have both said they wished to monitor the voting for the runoff, which was called for by the Greenville County GOP after allegations were made about some of the votes cast in the first runoff between the candidates.

Trout beat Selby by 18 votes in the June Republican runoff.

Conflicting stories on the banning of ACLU and NAACP from monitoring polls. I'll update from the local scene. Poll monitoring on this re-run does not look good.

BTW: Trout is pro-MLK Day, Selby is anti-MLK Day. Also, believe it or not, there is a voter-intimitation campaign on. By whom? The anti-black, anti-MLK faction, of course. Guys in sheets? Some. But more often the rich white guys in BMWs at the posh Poinsett Club or Greenville Country Club.
