I really feel personally betrayed by Zig-Zag-Zell because I defended him for soooo long; he was such an enormous disappointment as a senator. However, even I have never called him a Dixiecrat...that's like calling someone a racist-a very serious accusation in a racially charged atmosphere.

Zell is a sell-out creep but he's not Jim Eastland.

I will say, I thought he had a pretty decent reputation back when he was Lt Gov and Gov of Georgia as a moderate-liberal. Then, he was appointed to the senate and, apparently, went nuts... Am I wrong?

But what got to me was the arrogant assertion that American soldiers are never "occupiers", always "liberators." Some Americans think (and most tend to be GOPpers)they are cat's whiskers for coming out on top of communism. The reality is that America uses its troops ONLY to occupy and steal other nations' resources. Not even WW 2 was about liberating people. It was about protecting America's interests. BUSINESS interests.
Forget America, no nation on earth would committ its troops simply to liberate a bunch of poor sods. There is always a vested interest.
